Suddenly getting hives from everything!

I'm a 22-year-old female. About a month ago I got a patch of hives, seemingly from resting a plastic folder on my knee (a folder I'd been carrying daily for months). Since then, I've sporadically gotten more, once from that folder again on my arm, twice from the waistbands of synthetic underwears, once from an upholstered chair in my house that I'd sat on daily with no problem, and once from a certain synthetic fabric bra with no reaction until afternoon.

So it seems to be related to synthetic materials, perhaps combined with sweat or moisture. None of the clothing was new, and it was all just washed. No new detergent or body wash, no eating differently, no living anywhere new. I moved to China in January 2014, traveling weekly between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and it's happened in both places. Both are polluted and humid, pretty much constantly 90 degrees May through September, but as I said, I had no hives until this August. I did get bitten by bedbugs one night around a month ago if that's somehow related.

So I'm wondering, why might my skin be suddenly and sporadically reacting to so many things? Can I make it stop?

Do these air purifiers really work ? How long have you been using them ? My baby suffers from asthma and a friend recommended using an air purifier in the baby room .

Thanks for sharing! That's helpful and definitely worth asking. For years I've had other minor problems that might be hormone-related, so it's a possibility.

I haven't checked this website in a long time--how has the treatment been working for you?

I have no idea if this is the answer or not but worth a try I think.

I have had chronic hives for 7 years and no none knew what caused them. I finally found a doctor, OBGYN who thinks he knows what is going on.

They started right after I had my daughter. I had them very mildly prior to that so mild I had no idea what they were.  Very randomly they would pop out then go away. They came with a vengeance after her birth and have never left.
I was just diagnosed so I am not sure if this is the cure or not.

I have low testosterone and high progesterone. They are putting me on testosterone cream to see if it makes them stop. I will keep you posted.

Get your testosterone and progesterone tested!  Doctors had no idea what was wrong with me and it turned out it wasn't my thyroid. But by going to an endo I did discover I had thyroid cancer, another story there.

So get tested for low testosterone and see if it is the answer!

I just read about dryer sheets and how they deposit a fine  powder on your clothes. You can try not using them if you do and maybe that would help. Just a thought!
