URI prednisone side-effects

With a recent upper respiratory virus infection, I used a tapering dose of prednisone: 5 days 30mg; 5 days 20 mg; 5 days 10 mg.  As I got better, side-effects were worse than the illness.  Gastritis required re-starting sucralfate at least at bedtime, agitation and mood swings limited my cognitive function.  I limited my driving because of distractibility.  I'm 70 with ADHD.

This is the second time I've followed the pulmonologist orders for the prednisone with side effects worse than the URI.  I meet with my primary doctor today for post-infection followup.

Thanks for your speedy reply.  I am not on any medication for ADHD.  At age 70, I think my aging brain cells and adrenals don't respond well to neurotransmitter medications.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

As there has been tapering of the steroid dose, it's unlikely that the side effects are due to the medication. You may require medication or dose adjustment for ADHD.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
