Unexplained wheezing for past month...

Hello there, I'm a 32 year old female currently suffering with a strange wheezing/whistling sound and slight problems breathing.

I was recently a smoker (about 4-5 a day) not overweight, I go to the gym 4 times a week and eat healthily. Since early December (maybe even earlier) I noticed I was having trouble catching my breath during cardio exercise and getting air into my lungs but I managed to control it and was ok when I was doing less physical exercises.

I went to my docs last week as it was getting really worrying especially after I woke up at 3.30am wheezing unable to get my breath. I have been prescribed Amoxicillin anti-biotics but they have done nothing for my breathing and a blue inhaler which does help with my wheezing attacks.

I have since been prescribed a 5 day course of steriods but am worried about what this problem is and when I get back to the gym and resume my normal workouts ?

thanks in advance/

Steroids for an active infection are contra-indicated, as they will make it worse by suppressing the immune system.
Antibiotics will do nothing for a viral infection other than kill healthy gut bacteria.
The most fundamental remedy for any upper respiratory infection
is magnesium chloride lab grade, 1oz/1Lt filtered water daily,
sipped slowly to avoid laxative effects and repeat for 3-4 days.
For asthma, look into normalizing  automatic breathing patterns in the brain, by practicing breathing exercises over time, until the subconscious part of the brain picks it up. Search for the Buteyko breathing techniques or go to the normal breathing website. It helps reduce the frequency of attacks and also reduces the dependency on medications.
Also there's an emotional component in asthma, so reducing stress,
will help.
Asthma and shallow breathing in general produce more lactic acid,
associated with fatigue and other issues.
Cheers!

Hi, I may be young but here is advice, try to cut back on the smoking and keep using your inhaler and take at least to puffs and hold your breath for at least ten to fifteen seconds

I would suggest posting this on the asthma community...

Just so you know there is some sort of virus going around that mimics pneumonia.
My husband was given steroids, three different inhalers, and antibiotics...the kids and I were given nothing. Hubby suffers from asthma so perhaps that is why they gave him medications.
Not sure, but I would take it easy for a week or so to see if it improves.
I've had the same issues since the middle of December and am starting to feel better now. Still wheezing and coughing up stuff, but not as tired.
