allergic to weed?

i started smoking weed for a week, nothing happened the first few times, one morning i had a strange itchy rash but i just let it go. the next time i got paranoid, couldnt breath , was very confused and the scariest thing i started having violent muscle spasms all over my body,i was consciously fine and i was not paranoid anymore,it felt like i was being electrocuted but without the pain and i could feel it go up and contract my spine and jerk my head violently to one side, it would start from my big toe then end at the top of my head, this happened for an hour.  i smoked with two other people nothing was wrong with them

Hey guys, here is my strange, unfortunate experience with marijuana.
Back in 2013 I tried experimenting. I tried it maybe 2 times, I didn't get high, and my friends assured me it doesnt always affect you at first. The third time did the trick. My best friend and I smoked a bowl together. I had maybe 10 minutes of a good high, we were both happy and laughing, then I started to almost pass out. It felt like nodding off in class. All of a sudden, my entire body began violently convulsing, to the point where I could not speak between these convulsions. They were quick, and between each one, I was able to yell "call 911" at my friend, because I could not form complete sentences or describe what was happening to me. His parents were home, and they decided to drive me to the hospital. I kept asking if I was having a seizure because I had no idea what was happening... and I was also high. My heart rate was going crazy, every single muscle in my body was uncontrollably spasming, and by the time I got to the ER I was totally panicked. I was screaming, crying, and eventually began hallucinating. The doctors kept telling me I was just having a panic attack (I was not, I have had them before and have since then. While they can be debilitating, they do not cause these symptoms.) I was in the ER for 5 hours. The doctor tested me for drugs in case the weed was laced and the results came up as only having THC in my system. After a couple of hours and a sh*t ton of benydryl, I was able to respond again. The dr told me I seemed to be having a dystonic reaction. At the time, weed was still illegal, and he was not exactly kind to me. He basically just said "don't do it again," which I haven't. For weeks after I was still twitching. It is a shame because I wasn't just curious, I have chronic pain both mental and physical, and had exhausted my options for relief. Unfortunately, I found out that marijuana is not an option for me either.

i get problems when i smoke marijuana at night time. It simply is anxiety. Anxiety effects your brain chemistry causing panic attacks. Marijuana also messes with your brain chemicals so when you are stressed out or have been recently around the time u smoked weed.. The chemicals that made u relax had a counter affect making u panic and get anxiety because of the built up stress... Or some people simply just cant handle being high. Weed isnt for everyone. I still smoke just not at night when i know im about to have an attack. My attacks consist of feeling a lump in my throat, gagging or feeling like im going to throw up. Muscle aches and spasms and a rapid beating heart. Also if u are a chronic smoker it may start to have an adverse effect thus making u go into panic mode everytime u are high. I had to quit for a while.

Hi
I ate a hemp seed last year in a falafel!!?? It sent me into anphylactic shock! needed adrenaline, antiohistamine steriods in hospital to save me (could not breath, throat and tounge swelled!). Strange as I have smoked it for years. Now when I smoke it I get a more mild but similar reaction (throat/tounge swells!) hence i dont really do it!

To anyone who comes to this forum, I am actually pretty glad I came across this. I seem to have stumbled across a group of people that have gone through EXACTLY what I have gone through, I want to do some more research on this because their does not seem to be a solid scientific name or definition of why this happens to some people. Alright I will explain it this way, I had smoked years before this same occurrence you all speak of happened to me. The good news is, is that if you still feel paranoid and scared your gonna die after this happens even though you may have stopped smoking, you WILL NOT DIE. This happened to me about a month ago now, I had vaporized, if you research this, it is a higher dose of THC which can cause bad symptoms, I love weed as much as the next guy but when this happened to me it was very shocking. I have chopped it up to, to much THC in our type of people's body and eventually even if you have smoked for years that your body just, denies it and causes these symptoms. Extreme fear of near death, throat closing up for no reason, heart beating very fast makes you think you have heart problems, a odd state of mind where you feel out of it, like your not there like you are just gonna die and you know it. This all sounds very extreme right? But all these feelings have happened to me, I have done as much research on these symptoms as possible and went to the E.R. THREE times. I have got a x ray of my chest and everything, and have gotten checked out by multiple doctors. The bottom line is that their is nothing wrong with me and I am not just gonna die outta nowhere in some crazy way like my brain exploding or my throat closing up, and it will not happen to you either brave sufferer. They told me I had GAD ( general anxiety disorder ) now if you go to the doctor and they tell you this same thing. Do not worry you will not be stricken by this condition simply because I believe it is truly not what is wrong with us. I believe our bodies simply do not possess the want for weed any longer. I hate to say this but I felt like this for weeks after I smoked and eventually I excepted that their was nothing wrong with me and I was not gonna just die. But since I had stopped feeling so damned paranoid I tried smoking weed again, not the vaporizer this time because I know my body and mental stability would not be able to handle it. I tried hitting a joint a few times, just a few, now this did not cause a crazy extreme effect like the vaporizer simply because I know their is nothing wrong with me, but I still could not shake the uneasy feeling brought by just a little buzz. My best advice from a person who has been through the same thing, is that we have to maybe give weed a rest for a while. It is not that we have to quit forever but just take some time to live life with out it. I know it ***** because you believe all this time it is completely not harmful and it has never caused you any harm in particular but when it comes down to it, what is more important? Your sanity? Your life? Your happiness? or being hard headed and not coming to the realization that its just not for you right now? Try not to worry to much about what is going to happen to you. We all die eventually and it is more important to live life to the fullest while we are still here. Death is the great mystery of life and no matter what we are all instinctively scared of it because we are survivors.

Hi, welcome to the forum, your symptoms are suggestive of myoclonic jerks or drug induced myoclonus. Such disorder is not well studied and it is not clear that, why it occurs in some individuals. In such case you may be prone for such attacks in the future. Hence, you need to avoid the exposure to such drugs. These drugs (marijuana) crosses blood brain barrier wherein it can start the cortical impulses leading to such abnormal muscular spasms. It can commonly associated with convulsions.

The main line of treatment in such condition would be anti convulsants.  Drugs like Levetiracetam, Piracetam, Clonazepam or Valproic acid is found to be useful in treating such condition and can be taken against prescription. I suggest you to consult physician. Take care and regards.

I too have experienced these same reactions to marijuana. I remember last year I smoked a fairly small ammount of weed with a few friends on a "puff-puff-pass
rotation." I remember the night clear as crystal. I was sitting on a plush tan couch. It was very cold outside. After a total of 3 hits I remember my throat
closing up on me. Then,as weird or physco as this sounds, "I WAS NOT THERE BUT I WAS." The room was there. The tv in the room was there. The bumping music was there. I, however, was in a
zone or state of mind far more disturbing then where I had been. There was no laughter, giggles, or laid back euphoria as described by several pot users. There was only this utter fear that pulsed through my veins. My heart racing
soo fast and at such rapidity it could explode and leave the room covered in blood. My body went into this state of tundra (coldness being a symptom of overdose). My muscles that I use in everday life for imperative tasks started to
not only spasm but convulse. Finally, my mind my psyche became disoriented and out of wack. I rubbed my hand over my hair to feel numbness. Time stood still. I was literally stoned and incabible of preforming the simplest of tasks such as
putting on my shoes. I managed to get out of that dim room and get to my car. I was scared for my life and wellbeing at that point like never before.DEATH was all that flooded
my mind.I then made the second biggest mistake of that night DRIVING. I couldn't stay over my buddies house. They had been egging me on to smoke more and more and more. I needed and
escape. Funny how many people get high for just that:an escape. The ride home was horrid! I had to turn on every dome light in my car and almost blow the speakers out with loud music to keep myself from fading totally. Thank God I made it
home with no harm. When I arrived to my house I remember the great insomnia I had. Convulsing trying to sleep.I ate and drank some juice to no avail. I then woke up in the morning and couldnt't shake this. It was still with me when I woke up for about 5 hours. The only way
it came out is when I hade diarhea for then entire day. I know that weed has a negative affect on me because, like a fool, this happend EVERY SINGLE TIME I SMOKED BEFORE THIS. No matter what blend or type. Whether it be "sour diesel","cotton candy", or everyday "reggie", they
all affected me like this. How do you then call this a one-time bad experience? How do you write this off as some "bad" weed? These are solid facts not some fallacy or fairytale by some crazed individual.
I am living proof that one can TRIP on marijuana. I am happy to see that there are people on here who express the same experiences and questioning associated with this.

I smoked a two puffs out of a joint last Wednesday, I too had my heart rate really high and became anxious and paranoid the whole night. I didn't sleep at all till the next day. However, on Sunday morning I woke up with a weird numbing sensation on the back of my brain, kind of warm. Later in the day I felt nervous, had trouble breathing, and disoriented. i ended up going to the ER, where they only diagnosed me with a headache which it was not. Up to today I still feel nervous and at times paranoid because I don't feel right. I feel disoriented, brain dead, i can see everything but I can't seem to focus. I'm worrying a lot about it I don't feel like I am here. Its been my third time smoking it, I never really do. Somebody please help me, I want to feel normal again its been a week I need help.

Heyy i recently tried some weed, only half a joint mixed with some baccy, and about 2 minutes after finishing it and stubbing the remains of it out i felt rather sick. I hadnt eaten anything and i knew i couldnt throw up, but it felt like i was going to constantly and i barely made it upstairs to the bathroom. i dont have a gag reflex and i couldnt get anything out even if i tried so all i could do was collapse on my mates floor and wait for the pains in my stomach to stop. I also shook quite alot, like a violent shivering motion for about 15 minutes. I couldnt focus on anything but i had perfect functioning of my hearing and i could speak fine. I woke up a couple of hours later absolutely fine but i missed out on a great night and i dont know what happened. Can anyone help out with what the f*** happened??
Much love to all xxx

There are a few things to consider here for this whole thread.
1. Sometimes weed is no very potent and is then sprayed with formaldahide however you spell that. This is bad for your lungs, and can cause certain issues.

2. Sometimes any drug can weaken your defenses for a time and thus you may react to some allergy already existing which your immune was keeping in check so you never knew you had it. Or by Putting your nervous system in such a bad state that all kinds of feelings can other things can happen.

3. Every plant and strain of weed is a little different. The chemical makeup is never exactly the same ratios as another plant. Some weed plants can mellow you out plenty, so you feel relaxed while another can make you nervous or paraniod. And some people can even be paranoid on a weed that mellows all their friends. People have their own personal effects. And many people react to weed differently than others.

I am not a Cannabis smoker.  I have a severe allergy to Cannabis.  Not only do I get a contact rash and or irritation I also get the watery eyes, shortness of breath, etc.  Normal allergy symptoms.  The problem is it does not stop there.  In fact it has become deathly for me as my respiratory system shuts down all together without some sort of immediate help.  I have been hospitalized twice and of course the doctors all say it has to be something else.  In fact other than being told to take Benadryl I have never received any medical help to save my life.  I'm sorry if I sound angry ... I am just really frustrated.  I can no longer go to concerts, or even amusement parks.  Shoot I had a reaction in the grocery store parking lot the other day.  If you have any words of wisdom on how to keep my reactions under control enough where I am not scared to go anywhere I would really appreciate it.  The Benadryl doesn't work .. most antihistamines have no effect whatsoever.  the only counter remedy I have even been able to find is an albuterol inhaler and a menthol cigarette to open my lungs as much as possible so I can cough out the toxin.  This is not only dangerous but very painful.  So again if you have any ideas ... please help.  I would like to go on living in this country ... not hiding from it.

Thank You

When I smoke weed everything turns into slow motion and I get very light-headed. My feet feel very heavy off and on, and even sometimes I feel I cant move. I tried to stand up and I kept blacking out about three times, my friend would catch me because I was almost felt like I was passing out those three times. While I was blacked out I could talk and hear everything, so basically I would go blind for a couple of minutes. I felt like I couldn't breathe half the time and my body would get really bad muscle spasms- to the point where I thought I was going into a seizure. My body felt on fire almost and I wasn't hungry at all. After it started to where off, I ended up puking, and falling a sleep.
This happened to me three times. The last time was the worst.

Please help me.

Hi,

This is most probably related to your smoking weed.

'Effects of smoking are generally felt within a few minutes and peak in 10 to 30
minutes. They include dry mouth and throat, increased heart rate, impaired
coordination and balance, delayed reaction time, and diminished short-term
memory.

Moderate doses tend to induce a sense of well-being and a dreamy state of
relaxation that encourages fantasies, renders some users highly suggestible, and
distorts perception (making it dangerous to operate machinery, drive a car or
boat, or ride a bicycle).

Stronger doses prompt more intense and often disturbing reactions including
paranoia and hallucinations.'

You should stop smoking weed and consult your doctor if your symptoms persist.

Yess!!!!  Someone has the same problem as me!  When I smoke I shake uncontrolably and barely know what is going on...or if I do I don't remember very much afterwards and my heart beats really fast and my head throbs...I give up on it.  Something is just not right when I smoke.

Heyy.. I have the same reaction (that muscle spasm thing you were describing) but I only get that when ever I smoke bongs, not when I do joints.. so I think it may be because you took in too much smoke. Try smoking less, or avoid using bongs and just smoke joint. I know how much it sucks cause you are fully aware of what's going on and you can feel the trip the whole time it's a crappy thing to happen!

Hi,

What is your doubt?

It would be best and most reasonable for you to stop smoking. You know that your symptoms have a cause and the best treatment or management would be to avoid the substance.

Do you have any allergic reactions in relation to other substances?

Let us know if you have any other doubts and also about the symptomatic improvement on stopping smoking.

Regards.
