fatigue caused by allergy?

I'm a 52 year old maile who is athletic and in good shape.  3 years ago, I went through
a period of approximately 2-3 weeks in which I felt fatigued, throat wasn't sore, but felt
a little irritated, and had some sinus pressure.  I had assumed it was some type of allergy,
which I had never had in my life.  Things got back to normal and I didn't think any more of it.

Yesterday, I started feeling the same way.  I normally have a high energy level, but I felt
lathargic and my throat was again not sore, but a little irritated.  I hadn't connected it to
the allergy 3 years ago, so I went on a 40 mile bike ride.  By the time I got done, I felt wiped
out and laid in bed the rest of the night.

Does this sound like an allergy situation?  If so, what type and what would cause it?  Should
I stop cycling all together or just go easy?  This is prime riding season and hate to miss training,
but sure don't want to make matters worse.

thanks!

Allergies do make a person tired.  I am having one those bad years with allergies.  Fortunately I had a appointment with my Allergist this past Wednesday.  He perscribed a stronger dosage of  Nasalcort that I use twice a day plus a nasal antihistamine that I use in the evening when my Allegra is wearing out.  Things have turned around and I feel lots better.  I do still get tired at night.  If you haven't already done so, I recommend that you see a doctor.   In the mean time pick up some generic Zyrtec or Claritin.  It should help.

I've noticed with allergies, some OTC medications work and others don't. It depends on your body. Claritin doesn't do a thing for me, but it relieves my husband's allergy symptoms. So consider trying an OTC medcation and if that doesn't work... try another one. (welcome to the frustrating world of allergies!)

If your sinuses are clogged, I would recommend a relatively inexpensive product that you can purchase at Walgreens.... NeilMed sinus rinse.

Good luck !

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.  It's frustrating - I hope it doesn't last for a few weeks
like it did last time.  Does Claritin help with the energy level problem?

It certainly sounds like allergies. One thing you can do is check the pollen levels every time that you have one of these episodes and find out which pollens could be the possible culprits for your symptoms.
