hives connection to needles

I have chronic hives, maybe 3-4 months now.  I had blood drawn once recently and my whole right arm swelled up, not really sure what it was but it itched badly too..i know hives take differenrt forms.

Anyway, i had an IV yesterday at the hospital and my left forearm broke out with hives.  The rest of my hives seem to be clearing up.  I use Copaxone by injection once a day and I have stopped it fot a few days also.  I do need to start it again however.

I have no idea what the connection might be.  I would appreciate any feedback anyone might want to contribute.

Thanks, meg

Thank you so much, i have started my copaxone again after a few days, which was ok'd by my MS Dr,  i do have post injection reactions but I dont mind that so much, it appears to be helping me so much.

In the meantime I found out that i am anemic...my iron level is 14, Sat.level 5...it explains why i am always so tired and sick.  My primary put me on iron suppliments.

My hives are gone for now.

thanks, meg

Hi, welcome to the forum, hives in connection with needle is unlikely. The commonest cause would be drug allergy.  Immediate post injection systemic reactions can occur in about 10% of patients using copaxone; symptoms may begin within minutes of injection and usually spontaneously resolve within 30 minutes. Copaxone is antigenic, and may possibly lead to the induction of untoward host responses.

You may have to go for drug testing before the injections. If there is hypersensitivity you may have to discontinue or prior treatment with anti allergic against prescription will help. I suggest you to consult and discuss with your physician. Take care and regards.
