itchy arms

I have been dealing with the itchy arms for the past 4  years.  It starts in August and lasts a few months.  Last night was by far the worst it has ever been!  I live in the Cincinnati area.   The itching is a deep prickly feeling with no visible signs on the skin. The more you scratch the worse it gets.  It is so frustrating and No doctor seems to have a clue what it is!!!   It is on my arms, from the wrist to my shoulders.  but now it has been on my neck as well.  I have had some relief in the past by using a lotion called amalactin.  It is acid based and does seem to help.  NOTHING helped last night!  only the ice, but as soon as I took it off the iching started again.  This is so aweful, does anyone know what it is???????  and better yet how to stop it!!

I have had this same thing that you described. It's definately hormone related for me I have noticed. Thinking it might be diet related too-I stopped eating bread/pasta, night-shade foods, any possible allergen--but when I started taking prenatal vitamins--that's when I noticed the difference. The itch completely goes away within minutes of taking one. I was convinced it was the B vitamins-because it helps to take just a B-12 but to keep the itch GONE (at least for 24hrs) it has to be a prenatal vitamin with iron. Hope this works for you too!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the forum!
The itch could be due to something that comes in contact with your arms. The common allergens are foods, insect bites, sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Please go through the list and see what could be the cause. The only way to stop itching is to avoid the cause. Anti allergics will also help. You could also be having a dry skin in arms due to say repeated washing. You can take an allergy test to know for sure what the cause is. Please discuss this with your doctor.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
