please help.

Hi please help me...since the last year i have been having some allergy problems....On my first day of my Menstrual period my eye suddenly swells up and itchs badly. At first i thought i was allergic to a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen..so i stopped that and started taking an alternative to it which the doc prescribed. But there is no difference. I am just wondering what on earth am i allergic to. This has never happened in the past and since i get period pain i have always had ibuprofen and paracetamol, and nothing ever happened. Could any one possibly help??

Thanks for your response doctor, but i have tried changing medication but the allergy seems to spring up during my periods..i hope i am not allergic to progesterone, coz i am undergoing fertility treatment and at the last cycle (which failed) when i was given progesterone i constantly developed a rash and had itchy hands.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The swelling could be due to angioedema. This is swelling of the deeper layers of the skin due to an allergic reaction. The reaction occurs more commonly on the face around the lips and near the eyes. Therapy lies in identifying the allergens and avoiding them and anti histamines. Even if you don't have a prior allergy to a medication, you may develop the same latter. Try alternative medications. An allergy specialist can help identify the allergens and desensitize you.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
