Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Both poison ivy and poison oak belong to a genus or group of plants called Toxicodendron belonging to family sumac. They get their names because of their resemblance to ivy and oak respectively. They both cause the same allergic reaction and only differ in their leaves.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
