predisone and abdominal pain

I went to the ER yesterday because I had broke out in hives really bad and was experiencing tightness in my throat. They told me I had a allergic reaction to something and gave me predisone and benadryl through IV. I went home and slept great, woke up today with a sore throat. I took my first presidone pill about two- three hours ago and have been experiencing extremely bad abdominal pain. Just when it seems to let and feels as though it is going away.... it comes back full force. Is this a normal side effect to this pill?

Hello ,

The abdominal pain that you are experiencing can be a side effect of prednislone as it is one of the documented side effects of this medicine.Hives can also be related to prednisolone. Hives have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours.
Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. However others may be triggered by viral infections or medications.

Are you having any other symptom or sign?

I think that if you did not have prior abdominal pain prior to taking prednislone, then it can be an adverse drug reaction.Pls talk to your doctor in such case and try taking some different corticosteroid.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or of you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.

Also.... I have broke out in hives again since I took it. How am I supposed to know whether its from the initial problem or if I have an allergy to prednisone!?
