why am I itching and in pain for no reason?

I'm now 38 yrs old, but 2 yrs ago, I started breaking out in hives, super itchy and sometimes in round circles on my palms. After scratching, there would b pain in my joints. Very quickly different areas of my body would itch anywhere from the top of my head all the way down to my toes. Sometimes they would look like perfect rings or just patches. I've been to the allergy doc who put me on sum mess but doesn't no y. Soon after my hives started I get very painful throbbing pain in my joints randomly. It could b one finger, or two. Most times it's my legs, toes, palm, or just random spots on body.  Doc says it's inflammation but the mess r not working anymore. Most days I just want to cut my hands off bcus it will b both my hands itching and in pain! Pls help. Someone mentioned steroids... I have one last option that my doc said they can give me and it's a shot administered once a month.  My husband doesn't want me to do it bcus one of side effects is cancer... please help!
