Inflammation

Besides bromalain, is there anything that has a strong (like a steroid) affect?  NSAIDs are far from working.

Thanks!

Garlic is an anti bacterial and anti fungal, but not much of an anti inflammatory.

No, but since mullein affects the sinuses and chest, that does involve antihistamines.  Histamine is part of the immune system; when it becomes too aggressive protecting the body particularly from things that aren't even harmful (such as flower pollen), anti-histamines act to curtail the resulting inflammation.  Over active immune systems cause inflammation, since inflammation is a tool the immune system uses to isolate what are perceived to be harmful invaders.  Many anti-inflammatories are anti-histamines, such as quercitin, nettles, Chinese skullcap.  Other anti-inflammatories act by digesting the protein coating the body leaves around inflamed areas, such as bromelain and other proteolytic enzymes.  Other anti-inflammatories work through anti-oxidant action, such as vitamin C.  Others work by retarding certain inflammatory enzymes, such as turmeric, ginger, boswellia, and many others.  There are a lot of causes of inflammation, and a lot of different anti-inflammatories, but mullein isn't one of them.  It is instead a clearing herb, along with coltsfoot, ephedra, pleurisy root, and many others.

Are you saying that all anti-inflammatories are anti-histamines?  I am confused. Please explain. Thanks.

Mullein isn't really an anti-histamine, which would make it anti-inflammatory, it works more by clearing mucous from the lungs.  It's what's known as a "clearing" herb.

Judging by your heading you are looking for anti-inflammatories. These would include N-acetyl-cisteine, vitamin C, vitamin B5 (first-rate), and mullein extract, to name some of the most prominent. I take these for emphysema.

Magnesium isn't so much for inflammation as it is for relaxing the muscles.

Add boswellia, proteolytic enzymes (of which bromelain is only one), freeze dried nettles, devil's claw, green tea, the circumin mentioned above is an active ingredient of the herb tumeric, Chinese skullcap (scutellaria), ginger, and more others than anyone could possibly keep in one's head.  The most equivalent to an NSAID is the original nsaid that aspirin was derived from, white willow bark.  Bromelain, if you choose that route, is best used in combination with quercitin and Vitamin C.  Also the homeopathic remedy arnica montana.
