I just wanted to add some facts to what was said about Marijuana. I was suppose to have Bipolar disorder at 12 and was not diagnosed till i was 17 years old. The Courts took my case over after i was BUSTED with Marijuana and forced to take medication prescribed to me by a Psychologist. Including Mood stabilizers and  Adderall witch is a prescription medication that is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. which made me start my own scientific experiment, While i was taking the Medications prescribed to me i often had to up my dosages. I then decided to compared the side effects between my legal drugs and Marijuana. The Legal drugs have more symptoms then  the Illegal Drug. such as Damage to liver, Manic Stages, Heart Attack, Depression  EX. Also with an overall addiction at the end. While Marijuana also known as (weed) is not Addictive. People might want the drug but do not need it, The with draw can cause Emotional problems yes. Some people say Marijuana causes more problems in our community  with Burglary and street problems but really its because sometimes the drug can be hard to find and is taxed on the streets. if the government  took over and made Weed legal we wouldn't have as many problems in our community. I always had a bad experiment with  my pills I went into many Manic stages, Lots of depression issues My Manic stages started to turn deadly due to all my depression. so i stopped taking my medication and now i feel perfect smoking my Weed. Over all I have better Concentration,  Positive Thoughts, It feels as if i have a greater look at the world, I can now see Peace on the earth,Don't smoke  b4 the age of 18  .........&& don't Hate Appreciate.......  Sorry 4 the long story i just felt people shouldn't discriminate b4 they know both sides of a story.. but i am very tiered and some of them might not make since sorry

The use of a vaporizator for smoking cannabis is highly recommended as what you get is a vapor containing at least 90% THC. There is no link with the you of vaporizator to smoke cannabis and damage to the lungs.

When using cannabis (please stop saying marijuana because this word was invented as a tactic to make it illegal back in the years) for medical reasons you should use a vaporizator. Ingesting cannabis will last more longer but you need massive doses to get the same effect. Smoked cannabis, preferably with a vaporizator, is extremely more bioavailable than ingested cannabis.

Now a short note on the history of cannabis for those who are interested.

Back in the days where cannabis was legal it was mainly used to make paper, oil (with the seeds), clothes etc. It was so popular that people said this was going to be the most valuable culture of all time since cannabis grow in one year, produce a variety of products and the next year the roots make the soil in a perfect condition for another culture. Back in the days it was legal to grow cannabis and pay your tax with cannabis. Ford, Franklin and many others grown cannabis. Then when the petrol industries became powerful with their , at the time, new kind of energy they realized how cannabis could be damaging to their profits. People such Melon, Dupon and other people related to the petrol and forest industries were alarmed by the success of cannabis culture. Due to their connections with strong people such as John Edgar Hoover (first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States) they decided to try to make cannabis illegal. The first attempt was refused. Then they started the propaganda and invented the word ''marijuana'' to remove credibility of cannabis. Some movies then have been produced as propaganda, such movies are Reefer Madness (1936) and Assasin of Youth (1937) all the movies at the end were saying ''tell your children!''. The baby boomers have been told this and then they told to their children. Then they had a second shot at making cannabis illegal and while it was refused again but the Ways and Means committee, the only committee that had the power to do so, made the law accepted and then cannabis became illegal in 1937 to the profits of the multinational industries of Dupon, Melon and Kleenex and the government. Our earth is suffering of this disaster again today since cannabis was illegal.

Hi,
I'm bipolar with Generalized Anxiety disorder, insomnia, and a history of PSTD. I also managed to graduate with an M.A. in Health Psychology. (Don't worry, I am not fulfilling my dream of being a counselor as I am not stable enough, all that money was wasted). I do appreciate the use of clinical studies and specifics earlier in this thread. Back to the subject, I feel that marijuana is a drug like any other drug, it can help some, and have negative effects for others.
Lets be logical and evenheaded, how many of us with serious mental issues took prescription drugs that had horrible side effects and had to be changed. In my case it took my Psychiatrist and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner 6 months to get my medicine 'cocktail' correct. I endured a lot of bad side effects during that time (because as we all know it can take a minimum of 2 weeks both for side effects to subside and for the medicine to begin to work.) I am now on 7 medicines and have stabilized.

Prior to my access to health care I self medicated for several years with marijuana. In general (the changing factor being the type of weed and source) it decreased my anxiety, stopped racing thoughts, allowed me to come out of my self and be the active person I needed to be when I was slow or down.  When I was not thinking and racing around doing things without judgement it slowed me down and again brought me closer to what I consider my 'true' self.

The positive effect marijuana had on me has many factors to be taken into consideration. Just like legal pill form medications, one can not expect the same reaction from person to person. Unlike regulated medication the marijuana itself varies widely which when added to the factor that persons are not the same means there will be a varied reaction to marijuana from supplier to supplier. As warning unless you grow it yourself you do not know what you are actually smoking, always keep in mind some people get a kick out of lacing pot with various substances.

There has never been a pot overdose. Car crashes 'involving pot' nearly always involve drunk driving as well. More people die from cigarettes and alcohol each year than from marijuana. Take Note - when ever you see a 'statistic' about the bad side of pot, a scare tactic type statistic, ask for the information on how many of the said statistic were drinking alcohol as well.  Be a critical thinker. Be an independent thinker.  Be cautious in your actions. If you are not sure don't do it.

Obviously I must openly reveal that I am for decriminalization of marijuana. If any of you are pot smokers I suggest you eat it, smoking pot is bad for your lungs. No I'm not kidding. I know my views are a little off beat but I am allowed to have them as you are yours. :)

Thank you for taking the time to read my opinion, people seldom listen to me or understand what I am trying to say.
Go in Peace

Nope !!! Drugs like marijuana only increases the appetite for more  pleasure. Our body has natural system of rewarding for pleasure. Dopamine is one such chemical molecule (neurotransmitter) which is responsible for pleasure oriented activity. Now if people take drugs, drugs imitate the function of this neurotransmitter. So production of Dopamine will be decreased. Every time, when someone has to experience same pleasure they depend on more drugs... This will only exacerbate the problem.....

Yeah, I'd stay away from marijuana.. I caused me a nervous breakdown once and I don't think it is a good solution honestly. But then again I'm against all drugs. Stay as clean as possible, that's my advice!

Withdrawal could include high irritability and various other psychological symptoms. Pain perception can also be increased.

when i first read your post i was lost hehe, CB1 n GABA i was thinkin what the hell is all that jabber hehe. i understand tho, well sorta, but for the most part i comprehend. so ok what are the withdrawl symptoms of a user that used everyday every hour for 8 years. and when i mean everyday i mean no breaks in between, and smoked at least as soon as the high started to diminish

Yes it can work really good as a relaxer but note that adequate dosing is the key. Activating the CB1 receptors (cannabinoid) by smoking weed decreases the release of GABA. Drugs that act as agonists of GABA receptors (known as GABA analogues or GABAergic drugs) or increase the available amount of GABA typically have relaxing, anti-anxiety and anti-convulsive effects. So there's a paradox here. I think relatively small amount could have relaxing proprieties without having anxiety symptoms attributed to the lower GABA actvity.

I used to be an every day weed smoker and quit back in Jan.  I can tell you for me, it made me feel a hundred times worse in all respects.  Horrible increase in anxiety - especially while high, then extremely depressed the next day and several days after.  IMO - it's not a good idea if one suffers with any kind of emotional problem.

After not smoking for 6mos, I've felt the need to test myself twice in the last few weeks and the depression it brings on is horrendous!

"I dont understand wat makes someone get addicted to anything tho....its mind boggling..."

People get addicted to substances because they feel so awful either emotionally or physically or both and they will do anything to feel better.  No one *means* to get addicted.  Clearly, you feel pretty well emotionally - you are very lucky and I mean that sincerely.

A study has revealed that cannabis taken in small dose does not cause depression but in higher dose will tend to cause depression and/or aggravating depression. From my own personal point of view the study was not significant because of the lack of samples (people) and experiences based on mice. In another study cannabis could produce schizophrenia or be the onset of schizophrenia in individuals prone to schizophrenia.

I tried to self-medicate with alcohol. Then I started considering pain killers. At that point I realized that I was going down that slope and decided to talk to my doctor.

I tried marijuana in my teens, and it only made me anxious/borderline paranoid, so I haven't touched it since.

Marijuana is a depressant, and has a tendancey exacberate any symptoms you have.  My personal opinion, it will make things worse as seen in my own family with my daughter.

I feel anytime you start "self-medicating" you start out on a very slippery slope and it's only spirals down from there.  You'll reach a point where you will need to increase whatever you're self-medicating with, and eventually have more problems than you started out with.  I think you're better off to stick with the experts and do what they feel is best for you.  Take care!
