St Johns Wort for anxiety/depression

Hello.  Has anyone had any success with St Johns Wort for Anxiety or Depression?  If so, how long does it take to take effect?

God, Wise Woman!  Don't hear that company's name much anymore, what with Whole Foods driving so many really good companies off the shelves.  But passionflower is widely available from every good herbal company, so it's very easy to find.

I agree with Pax.
5 htp and l- theanine really helped me when I needed it along with Passion flower made by Wise Woman herbals.
Best wished to you!

That's great Paxiled.  I will definetely look into this book.  I have also started taking Magnesium twice a day and I have noticed that I feel abit better today.  Take care x

If you're not on medication, a combination of remedies might be better for you, and 5-HTP might be better for the combo of depression and anxiety than St. John's Wort.  Might, I might add.  Try picking up a book by Hyla Cass called Natural Highs.  She's a psychiatrist at UCLA, and it gives a decent overview of how to use natural remedies for this.  Good luck.

Thanks Paxiled.  I might give it a shot and see how I go.  I've also started taking Magnesium which is meant to be very good for both anxiety and depression.  I just need to get out of this hole that I'm in at the moment.  It's like there is no light at the end of the tunnel :-(

Personally, no, but it's not used for anxiety, it's used for depression.  There was a lot of research on it in Germany some years back, and it's used quite a bit in Europe by physicians as a first line treatment for mild to moderate depression.  Of course, in the US, docs are mostly allergic to natural remedies.
