Subungual hematoma

Hi !
I slammed my right thumb on the car door two weeks ago and I have a small fracture on the distal bone and subungual hematoma. I took meds for pain, inflammation and antibiotics, now I only take Vit D, Zinc and Calcium.I had bandage for one week, but now I have orthosis because my nail might fall off. I have dark blue-purple-black hematoma under and around the nail and it's really solid on touch. The nail started to change the color from dark blue to purple and it's still growing. I'm not really sure now what to do with the hematoma, should I put something or keep it dry ? Should I clean the finger with Iodine or Hydrogen ? What's the time needed to heal ?
Thank You !

The blood collected around the nail is like a wound (crust), it's hard on touch and it seems will heal like every other wound and it already started to heal, the pain is almost gone, I only feel a bit tenderness on the fingertip. The nail is purple and I hope it will not fall off, no matter how much time is needed to heal :D
Thank you very much !

I sympathize - I caught my middle finger in the car door about a month ago.  Smashed it nicely, with a cut running from the fingertip under the nail and out the side.  I thought I would lose the nail but I haven't.  The cut part I cleaned very well with iodine solution, and kept a breathable bandage on it.  I personally use vitamin E frequently on cuts after one to 2 days as it seems to helps my tissue heal and reduces scarring.  For the hematoma, if there is no break in the skin the body will re-absorb the blood and fluid over time and it'll take however long it takes for that area of the body (not the answer you want, I'm sure, but it's true!).  If the skin is broken then keep it clean and protected.  For me, even after the cut part was healed up, the fingertip was tender so I kept a breathable bandage on it for protection and to remind me to be gentle with it.  I've still got swelling and slight tenderness but the bruising is gone now.

Good luck with it -
