44 yrs old and kinda scared

Hi there,

I'm a 44 yr old woman in good general health.  I've always had problems with memory - and it certainly isn't getting any better, but nothing huge there :)  Recently I've noticed a bit of trouble reading things like road signs or billboards - the words jumble a bit then are ok, so my reading time is decreasing (I am an avid reader, so this is disturbing).  Oddly, this doesn't seem to happen when I read novels.  But the thing that scared me was on Saturday morning I was running some errands on my way to a meeting.  I drove from one shop over to the local grocery store, picked up what I needed, then as I walked out I was suddenly hit with the realization that I had NO IDEA how I'd gotten there - did my husband drop me off?  Did I drive?  Where was my car? Luckily the parking lot was fairly empty and I drive a little blue FIAT - it stands out.  I saw a little blue FIAT and was trying to convince myself that it must be mine, I must have driven it there.  I walked toward it filled with dread, then all of a sudden it came back to me in a flood.  I almost wept.  This "episode" lasted between 30 secs and a minute.  It was horrible.

I don't know if this is possibly hormonal - my mom went through menopause by my age - I had a hysterectomy so I don't know where I'm at with that.  But both my grandmothers suffered varying degrees of dementia (parkinson's with one, the other was undiagnosed).  Anyway, if anyone can give any insight, I would appreciate it.  I have a dr's appt on the 31st, but this is weighing on my mind.

Thank you!

Sorry your going threw ths stress, it is very scary when you forget things, I to have walked out of a store looking for my car and I would be in my husbands car, sometimes you have so much on your mind you forget other things,

I went to find my phone the other day and I had it on my ear talking to someone, so it happens

Glad your going to your dr, tell him your concerns and maybe he can ease your mind.

My dr tells me if you forget something, but it does come back to you than your ok we al do that, but if you forget something and blame it on others or never remember it than there could be a problem

Don't be so hard on yourself, it makes you  forget more,  keep in touch let us know what dr says, Heart

Thank you Heart  for your kind & reassuring reply :)

I was able to see my GP this week - she's not too worried but is asking really great questions.  She's concerned about an "infarct" (sp?)...basically a mini-stroke (or TIA), and also wants to be sure it isn't anything like a tumour.  She also asked if I was doing anything unusual lately like sticking my cell phone in the freezer, which I am not, so that's good.

She said these steps are all just to be cautious, but that it could very well be just a huge distracted moment, which is what you were inferring (and is a good fit, likely!!).  She shared with me a reassuring story that happened to her - she was at the mall, came out to her car - and it was gone.  She searched everywhere in the lot, finally called security, they called police and she reported her car stolen.  What had actually happened is that she'd gone out the wrong exit of the mall. Her car had been there the whole time.

She said you have to take these things seriously when they happen and ask some important questions, but then if everything is ok, then it's ok and move on.

I've had my bloodwork done and now just waiting for a CT scan.  I'm sure it everything will be fine - as I am feeling good in all other ways.

Heart, thank you for taking the time to reply and reassure me.
