severe anal pain

I've been having severe pain for 2 weeks. I have been to a surgeon and to the er. Both Drs have sd it is not my external hemroids causing my pain nor did they find any internal ones. I also had a cat scan with dye and it showed nothing....I had upper n lower gi done in oct and at time was clear. My symptoms...very bad shootings pain in anas, sometimes really bad pressure, bowel movements go from one extreme to the other. Also my stool is thin anywhere from size of pinky to size of pencil. I can't handle much more because this pain doesn't let up. Thanks!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

The commonest cause for severe pain while passing stools is fissure in ano. This is characterized by a crack in the skin of the anus.  Anal fissures may be noticed by bright red bleeding if acute they may cause pain after or with passing stools. The cause for the tear is usually hard stools. The first step towards therapy would be to combat constipation, which is done by drinking plenty of water, like doubling your usual intake. Adding a lot of fiber rich food in your diet like green, leafy vegetables and bananas.Consuming only whole grain cereals like rice or wheat and avoiding refined carbohydrates. Regularly exercising, as this helps in bowel movement. But if constipation is still not relieved, then a laxative can be used temporarily.

If it becomes chronic then surgery may be the option. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
