Hello,

Thanks for posting your question here.

As a survivor of anal cancer, I could give you my story, including the discovery of this sneaky cancer.  But I won't as it will give you ideas that may be of no value.

If you are having any discomfort in the anal area, the reasonable thing to do is see a doctor.  If symptoms are having a negative effect on everyday life....go to a colo/rectal specialist.

Important to voice your fears of anal cancer to whomever you see.  There is lots more information now than in 2007 when I was diagnosed.

Relax...focus on positive.  Aren't we lucky to be alive in a time when colonoscopies are a regular, insurance covered test?

Wasn't always so...as you know.

Just saw your note...very glad you will have a colonoscopy soon.

I don't think I had pain in rectum or lower back.  Irritable bowel symptoms were what I was treated for. I had had bouts of diarrhea for years; which actually had nothing to do with anal cancer.

The serious indicator that I was in trouble was excessive  bleeding.

Try to relax.  You are on the right track. Ask your doctor or a nurse about your fears before you have the colonoscopy.
