Recovery Phase

My Mom just moved out from the ICU two-three days back.Doctors have advised us to take  her out on walks which she is now refusing to do after doing for a couple of days. She recognises us but cannot connect relations or remember names. Abstract things are completely out of question now.Her bowel control is still suspect.

She now wants to sleep during the day while doctors suggest that we excercise her(walk her 3-4 times for short distances, keep her awake) in the day to make her sleep at night.

I am afraid if are doing the right thing by cajoling her to walk or make her eat more than she wants to. Any thoughts.

Also what are the milestones we watch out for in her recovery. Can she walk up steps. Our house is on the 1st floor with no elevator. Is there any timefreme or recovery frame we can work on.

Also can someone in Chennai India suggest  an occupational theraphy and a physical theraphy centre.

Hi,

I'm new to this community so I have a question about your post.  You are talking about your mother's recovery only you don't mention what she's been through.  Could you expand?

Thanks,
JCoburn

May I recommend you take a look at the Brain Aneurysm Foundation website and look through the forum section.  I recommend this BAF site because it has tremendous info from similar survivors.  Medhelp is a wonderful site but it sounds like you need specific recovery data.  I hope all goes well with your Mother's recovery.  It's a long journey back so your Mother will need all the help she can get.  Good luck and be well!
