What can i do to assist?

Dear Doc, my 3 year old daughter who is sicklier suffered from a severe Ischemic stroke on 29th may 2012 An MRI was done and T1 and T2 images obtained. The report suggest a subtle cerebral loss and a slight midline shift 4.9mm to the right. The baby has been in hospital for almost a month and has been or rigorus treatment. she looks bright as she was transfused immediately and put on drugs to manage the condition. She was started on physiotherapy now after one week, This is the third week since she started physiotheraphy and there is no major improvement in her movement. She cannot talk though can now swallow as she was being fed through tube. Its sad that she cannot even turn and when she is tired of sleeping on her side she starts crying to be turned. This is a baby who had started to go to school and was already independent. Just want to know how as a parent can help her recover and be independent

Thank you for taking time and responding to my baby's predicament. She still in a very dependent state and we pretty have to do everything for her. She is positive a she can smile. We are waiting for the results of her EEG so that we can know the extent of the damage. This may guide us towards her recovery path. Will keep on sharing my predicament and hope for your opinion.

Hi!
I am sorry to hear that your little one is going through so much. If there is subtle cerebral loss and a slight midline shift 4.9mm to the right. then chances of fully recovery may not be great. You can talk to her treating doctor about this. They can guide you regarding future recovery, extent of it, and whether recovery is possible or not. If major areas of brain are affected, then recovery may not be much, and the child may always need assistance. However, if the damage is not much, then yes, some recovery is expected. Take care!
