Please help my chihuahua!

My chihuahua is 10 years old and has never been sick like this. She is 5.8 lbs, had a c-section in 2004 and was also spayed. Had a fatty tumor on her abdomen removed in 2008. On 12-20-10 we noticed she wasn't very active or wouldn't eat much. We took her to the vet 12-21-10 and had blood work done. The vet also gave her a shot of antibiotics and gave me amoxicilin 25 mg (1 ml twice a day). She still wasn't getting any better and the vet said her white blood cells were elevated so he said she had a bad infection. The vet wanted us to leave her over night so they can put an IV and give her fluids and antibiotics but I cant afford to leave her all night I have spent about $200 and this time of year is so bad for me my mom offered to pay for some of it. The vet told me to atleast take her in for a few hours, so I did. He put vitamins and antibiotic in the IV and gave her half of the fluid bag(up to the 5, not sure the measurement). When we took her home we seen a huge improvement, she ate chicken soup and even went outside to potty. But the next day she was back to being sick, sometimes when we pick her up she just cries in pain and tries to bite. We noticed she cries when she has to pee, i think it's because its hard for her to get up sometimes she doesn't make it to the pee pad. She shakes so much and her head twitches a little as she breathes. I'm so scared that she has cancer or something bad. Should we get x-rays done? Should i give her any vitamins, if so which ones and how much? I have been giving her Pedialyte to keep her hydrated (diluted with half water). Her vet is on vacation until 1-4-11. Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading my post.

Thank you so much for responding to my post. Unfortunately my dog's vet is closed until Jan 4 2011, and he didn't give me a copy of her blood test. I wish I would have known and asked for one. We didn't do a urine test, do you think it would help if we had one done? If my vet is right, and it is only an infection, shouldn't the infection have cleared by now? She has been on antibiotics for about 5 days. Or does it take dogs longer to clear infections with antibiotics? Also if she had bladder or kidney stones, would it cause her white blood cell count to be elevated? Is there a cure? I'm sorry for asking so many questions, I'm just so worried about her. Thank you for all your help!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
If you can post the results of your dogs blood and urine, I can make appropriate suggestions. Certainly fluids and antibiotics are helpful. Abdominal x-rays would help to reveal urinary bladder and/or kidney stones which may or may not be causing your dog to have problems with urination.
