MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Common causes of chronic vomiting include: Hyperthyroid disease, Inflammatory bowel disease, inappropriate diet, parasites and many more.  It is rarely a behavioral problem.

It might be a good idea to switch your cat's diet gradually to an ALL CANNED, GRAIN- FREE-DIET such as: Merrick's, Evo/Innova, Wellness, Natures Variety, and others.

Also, add a probiotic digestive aid, such as RX-biotic, Culturelle, or I-Flora, have your cat's stool tested for parasites (and treated, if parasites are found).

If the above methods are ineffective please have full blood work performed, and abdominal X-Rays.

My cat throws up occasionally too.  When I brought this up with the vet about 2 years ago she said my cat was probably eating too fast.  Said she could run a lot of tests and probably not have a definite answer as to why she was doing it.  So I slowed her down and it seemed to help but she would still occasionally do it.  Every 2 - 3 weeks or so.  However now she is doing it but not throwing any food up , just liquid.  She'll do it about 10 - 12 times in a 20 minute period and maybe throw up a little bit of hair but nothing considerable.  After she's done she'll go into the bedroom and eat and drink a bit then walks off and is fine for another couple of weeks.  She's healthy (kinda fat) and isn't losing any weight so I haven't been too worried about it and she's a really active cat.  I haven't changed brands of cat food in over 1 1/2 year, she's currently on Iams hairball / weight loss formula, although I change flavors from time to time because she's not picky.  I've tried the science diet a long time ago and no change.   She's about 3 years old, mostly Abyseinian, and fixed but not declawed.

Sorry for intruding in your post but I had a similar problem and thought maybe they could answer both of our questions.

More information please. How long has he been doing this? Is it a new food that's bothering him perhaps? Have you tried giving him small amounts of food at a time, perhaps 2-3 times a day to prevent overeating? Any belly tenderness or bloat? Stools normal?

My cat does this once in a great while if she has a hair ball in the way. Once that comes up or goes out, she's fine. I do give her treats that help with hair balls and she's a short haired Tabby.

We have done several things for our cat that eats and then vomits. The vet gave us some digestions medication and it did not help the vet checked for hair balls or any intestenal blockage and there is none . We wormed him and he should not have worms. When he eatss he eates so fast he does not chew anything just gulpes it down. We have tried to feed him just 2 or 3 times a day and that works pretty good except we have other cats and he gets into their food and soes the same thing over again. We raised him from a kitten and has never had to go hungry, there has always been food available for him. There has to be something that is causing hime to do that. None of the other cats are doing this.

Thanks still looking for answers
