coughing

My dog coughs as though he has something stuck somewhere, I cannot see anything, he eats quite well,  Could it be lung worms or could it be a tumour?  he  often vomits.bile.He is old now, and his back legs are going, should he be put to sleep? euthenasia?

Thank you for this info.  Thing is, we cannot afford to go the vet very often, have been a few times this year with other things about Maxi.  And I think we need to go, being aware that he may not come home with us again, so we tend to put it off.  We will not let him suffer uneccessarily I promise.  Diash

I am not in a position to make a judgement call regarding euthanasia. Only you, your family, and your regular veterinarian should be involved in that discussion.
Regarding the coughing, the most common cause is a degeneration of the mitral valve within the heart. The veterinarian who sees your dog will be able to diagnose this via an exam and some xrays. The xrays will also help rule in or out cancer, parasites etc.
