Is 900 - 1200 calories ok

Im 16 years old, I recently have been eating around 900 - 1200 calories a day, mainly for weight loss. I honestly want to lose weight but I really dont want to get sick either. Im around 5 foot 6, and I'm a size 6 american and size 10 UK. I really cant help this desire to want to lose weight.
What should I be eating? What are the side effects of this, I'm usually sedentary as I study alot.

Don't listen to them. You are fine! Anorexics eat less than 500 calories a day and exercise excessively. Anorexia is a mental disorder not a physical one.

It would be best if your focus is on living a healthy lifestyle.  Learn how to eat balanced meals through and exchange program.  The American Dietetic Association website should be able to guide you on a minimum of 1500 calories a day.  Learn exchanges.  Stay away from counting calories, fats, fiber, etc.  The body is wise.  Let your body go to its own natural weight range.  Remember to keep balance in your life.  Best, Dr Patricia Pitts  The Bella Vita  Los Angeles, CA

Hey...
I am currently overweight and trying to get my weight done in what I know is a very unhealthy way because I have struggled with an eating disorder for as long as I can remember (I'm 24)... It's now flared up again...
With that said, please....please....take my advice and do weight loss the smart way so 8 years from now you aren't overweight and starving yourself or stuck with your head in the toilet or half dead....
1.) You need an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM of 1,200 calories a day to survive on a continual basis.
2.) You are 16 and growing so that number should be more.
3.) A female can lose weight doing absolutely ZERO exercise at your height on a 1,500 calorie a day diet...
4.) If you starve... (Deprive yourself of less than 1,200 calories a day) you will lose your muscle, not fat... and the only way to lose fat is by having muscle... so it kinda defeats the purpose... (Believe me on this stuff...I have been there done it... For me it is now a matter of illness and control that I just can't seem to kick.)
5.) You will feel a lot better by adding a little bit of exercise into your life... even if you take the stairs instead of the elevator or walk a street further than you have to... eventually it gets easier. (And you get more energy.)

As for eating...
High fiber foods... (Avocado, Apples, Carrot, Bran, Lentils, Beans)
Dark greens...( Broccoli, spinach, romaine)
Proteins...(Salmon, chicken, eggs, nuts and seeds, tofu)
Choose whole grain over white and bleached starch...

Make sure to mix it up and keep your diet interesting...never get bored...Google cool recipes online or ask your parents for help... Tell them about wanting to eat healthier... Check out cooks on television who promote healthy eating. There are better ways to live than by counting calories and caring about looks....believe me... You don't want to be wasting your life obsessing about food.

I think it is awesome and very wise of you to be seeking advice and asking for support.

Just know that the real world isn't really a size 2... It wasn't until I already had disordered thinking that I realized that. As an adult you wont want to be loved for who you are on the outside... It wont be what matters... please don't waste your growing years depriving your body of vital nutrients for something that wont matter in your future...

Good luck with your healthy weight loss journey ; )
