The thing that I believe brought this on was the extreme stress and anxiety I experienced while testing for HIV. I tested three times and one of the times the results got screwed up. I have read a whole bunch of websites saying that dry mouth can be a symptom of HIV infection although the STD doctors on medhelp disagree. I guess what I really want is some reassurance that this dry mouth is a result of depression/anxiety/stress. I was briefly on melatonin, Ron zoplicone and lorazepam. But very briefly and almost 4 weeks ago so I don't think that is a contributing factor to my current dry mouth
Yes. I usually drink so much water, it is not noticeable to me.
When I fainted after son's memorial a few weeks back, realized one of first symptoms of stress overload was a very dry mouth. In fact I had just asked daughter to get me water.
I take clonazapam, which is drying as well.
Try carrying sugar free candies or mints with you if it is a problem when talking to others.
Have you had any medical issues ruled out as the cause? There are many conditions that can cause this so you want to make sure everything else is okay before assuming it's anxiety. Dry mouth causes other problems with tooth decay, problems swallowing, etc.
It's a pretty common side effect of anxiety and many people find relief from gum or hard candies.
I don't know why the anxiety causes this. Perhaps another member will know or you could call your pharmacist.
