Anxiety/depression diagnosed too soon?

As a child and now as an adult, know that I suffer from ADD.
Was I ever treated for it NO.  A couple ADD side effects are anxiety and depression, which I am being treated for currently.  My gut is telling me a step was missed.  Has anyone suffered from anxiety/depression and then just ended up needing treatment/meds for ADD only?

I completely agree - it's  "maddening" that our disorders do not come in neat little packets.  I greatly appreciate you putting it in perspective for me.

Let's see if I get this right - it has been a few years now.  It's like giving jurors  "neat little packets"  (exhibits) - then you  throw an expert witness on the stand to give a description of these "nice little packets" to your jurors.  I guess it usually works, but I'm still doubting the whole OJ thing.  I'm assuming a med-mal complaint  would be out of the question for me.

As a stay-at-home mom - w/little time/sleep, i should of looked at this site for more then a few minutes before I posted my question.  After pondering the idea (had a bit more time tonight),  the best thing I could have done was ask a doctor my question. I could not agree with you more.

I'm not teasing you here either, it's just my background.  What was my question again?  here we go, "Has anyone suffered from anxiety/depression and then just ended up needing treatment/meds for ADD only?"  I believe this is a yes or no answer.  I can assume your answer to this question is no - correct?  I'm still trying to find the relevance of your response.  Sorry, it's something I've been taught and trained to do ask.  You may need to help me out here.

Thanks and I really appreciate your willingness.

Best Wishes

I've always found gut reactions to be worth listening to, but here's the deal:

We are humans. Our "disorders" and problems don't always come in neat little packets, even though the descriptions of them DO come in nice little packets. So, the truth is, that we can have a mix of things which can change over time. Perhaps someone HAS been treated as you suggested. That's a BIG so what? Does it mean you should -or I should? Answer: MAYBE and MAYBE not.

Maddening, isn't it?

I'm not trying to tease you here. What I'm suggesting is that you have a long chat with your doctor (or a referral to a shrink) and lay out what your gut is telling you. Be guided by that, of all things. But please, when you do this, come back and tell us what you discovered. Your question is fascinating and relevant. Thanks!
