Frequent urge to take deep breaths

So these past few days I've been having this constant urge to take really deep breaths, like the ones you just feel like your lungs are about to explode from air. I don't have any elevated stress or anything I think could be causing this. It's starting to worry me a little. I have gotten like 1 a day and I didn't really think about it but now it's up to about 5-7 a minute, I feel like I'm constantly taking these breaths and it's starting to bother me a lot.
I have anxiety and I have been on medication for it for about 5 years now and never has this ever happened before. Is this something more than just anxiety or will I need to go to my doctor and have get higher dosage or maybe some new medication? Like I said I feel fine, even better than usually and no more stress than the usual school/work stress.

I agree with paxiled questions and am interested in those things too.  There are, really, worst thins to have a compulsion to do.  You are essentially slowing your heart rate down and getting more oxygen into your system then.  I encourage my son with anxiety to have periods of the day in which he does the deep breathing you describe.  So, while I'd be curious why it is happening, again, it's not a dangerous thing to be doing and actually could have some benefit.  Unless you can't breath before hand from exertion . . . that needs a doctor consultation.

Any idea if something happened before you did this the first time?  Are you in therapy to try and fix this or just maintaining on medication?  Do you do any relaxation exercises, such as meditation or breathing exercises?
