Anxiety

After many years of Anxiety/Depression and many different types of anti-depressants ...i have recently been prescribed Escitalopram 5mg.
I was wondering if anyone had taken this medication and were the results good/bad/indifferent.

This is a psychiatrist.  My GP wanted me to try Zoloft.  I thought he knew better but now I'm not so sure.  I hope if I have to come off Effexor it won't be too bad since I would have only been on it a short time.  Like I said before, I'm willing to give it one more month.  The psych doc just told me yesterday to up it to 112.5 mg.  it is already giving me noticeable tremors so I'm afraid moving up will only make that worse.

  Are  we talking a GP or a shrink at the hospital , GP.S talking tricyclic would scare the crap out me , And his logic is all wrong if a SSRI worked for you a long time then I would be thinking on the lines has another would do the same???????  you have a few to pick from no detox and a straight tapper what could be easier .  EFFEXOR  is a bad detox, I remember being in mental hospital and given EFFEXOR  the nurse said its a long time since I gave anyone this in hear. I though oooooooo  jesus  I wont tell you how long I stayed on it, and what happened because I may not be the same for you

I wanted to try Zoloft but the doc was insistent on Effexor.  He seems to think since my former ssri pooped out after so long that another one isn't the answer.  I told him about my hesitation but he seems to think this will work.  I plan to try it for another month.  If it doesn't work I want off.  He says after that he still wouldn't try another ssri but a tricyclic.  I just hope this works.  I'm tired of feeling like crap.

didn't you have a another SSRI  to swap to and save all the detox problems, your doctor should have gone down this road before EFFEXOR . the mistake you first made and I have done it myself is come off a med when you feel great . LEAVE WELL ALONE  if it aint broke type of thing. I remember 30 years ago giving up Prozac for the same reason ,2 months later i crashed  and Prozac had gone to generic  and would no longer work it made me really ill .

It's been so long, I can't remember exactly how long it took to kick in.  I was on Escitalopram once before this 10 yr stint.  I took it for about 1 1/2 yrs and weened off because I was feeling so well.  I was off for one year and had to go back on when my anxiety resurfaced.  It worked just as well the second time. Unfortunately I am currently suffering with anxiety/panic.  My doc switched me to Effexor XR which isn't working yet.  I've only been on it 2 1/2 weeks though.  I'm also still weening off the escitalopram.  I'm down to 2.5 mg now.  Getting off has been much tougher this time.  That may be the reason for my current anxiety and panic attacks.  I had no trouble before.  I hope it helps you as well as it did me.

I did a straight taper from another SSRI   AD    Lexapro  started to work the fist day on straight taper. it has its fair share of side effects but the best of the ssris

Thanks for your reply,so glad it worked ok for you,at least for ten years anyway.
Do you remember how long it was ..From your first Dosage did the Meds take to start working?
I was thinking do you still suffer Anxiety and are you taking any other meds for this.

yes same hear a great med , I took 10mg then down to 5mg has I take 6 mg Ativan a day ,   pooped out on me after 2 years back on Zoloft but don't think its going to work 2 nd time round

Escitalopram worked well for me for 10 years.  I took 10 mg for 8 yrs and 5 mg for 2 yrs.  Unfortunately it pooped out on me and a dose increase didn't help.  I wish it still worked.  The only side effect I really noticed was being tired but it wasn't bothersome.  I took it for anxiety.
