I have been on ativan for the past 7 years started with 0.5 sublingual and through the years I have reached and prescribed to take 1mg 3 times daily. My body does not do well if I run out and want to get off this stuff. My doctor has me on Zoloft and now clonazepam .5mgs. Being on ativan has made me need more and more as my body is getting immunity. This week I there was issues filling my prescription and I had already been out for 3 days. I had to wait 3 more days for them to fill it. Those last 3 days got worse and worse until I ended up in full blown anxiety and now seizures seem to be happening. I finally got the medication and am feel finally at ease. I read that ativan should only be describe for short periods of time but I have has a long run with this and to get off of it is so difficult. I do not recommend people to take ativan further than 6 months cause then you will up the dose until your immunity cause you another one. Has anyone been successful at getting off ativan? Would love to hear from anyone who can provide advice or share their stories.
Thanks,
T
Thank you so much! I get very anxious about taking medicine especially when I've never taken it before. Since my original post I had to take it two times. It worked to calm me down and helped me sleep. You said you used to take it? Were you able to stop taking it and live med free? I'm just asking because I really don't want to rely on meds the rest of my life!
Hi,
I have personally taken Ativan in the past for anxiety and found it to work very well. It can become addictive for some people but I simply monitored my usage and only took it when absolutely necessary and had no issues from doing so. As with any medication it effects everyone differently so I recommend giving it a try for yourself! I will say that when I was taking Ativan it did make me very tired. I personally have nothing but good things to say about this medication and I know several people taking it as well and they too have had good results. I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted on your findings upon taking this medication!
With any type of benzo's you need to be careful because they can be additive. For the most part they can help relieve the immediate symptoms but it would be better if you can talk with a Counselor who you can talk with and find alternative than taking nerve pills which do nothing for the cause of the anxiety. Also there is a herbal tea called Chamilla that works just like nerve pills but without all the side effects and is not habit forming. It usually takes about 3 cups a day but consult with your doctor first before trying anything new. I hope this helps.
