I wanted to share with you what I JUST learned from my Neurologist (I see a Neuro because I have Multiple Sclerosis) The drug Lexapro is not only an antidpressant, but also has anti-anxiety components in it. I never knew that. So if depression AND anxiety are an issure for you, maybe Lexapro would be the ideal drug. This might be something you can talk about with your doctor. Better to take one pill, than many.
Lexapro has some of the least side effects of the SSRI class anti-depressant drugs.(SSRI-Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor.) It can cause sexual difficulties, such as lack of interest and more difficulty achieving orgasm (sorry to be so blunt, forgive me) and it can cause some increased sweating. Of course there are other mild side-effects, but this drug may work well for you. It's worth discussing it with your doctor.
Lexapro is one of the faster acting antidepressants. I am told that it only takes about 2-2 1/2 weeks to start seeing improvement of depression while most of the others can be up to 4 to 6 weeks.
Whatever you decide to take, I wish you better health and some peace from these anxiety attacks. Been there...so I totally understand. I hope the best for you, dear. I really do.
Good Wishes,
Heather
Hi, Today is my 4th day now and im on 20mg. I think the side effects have kicked in to as I suffered my worst panic attack ever last night. My whole body felt as it if was going hot inside. Was horrible. I was actually afraid to take my tablet today, but I did.
Celexa definitely helped me and put me on a path to greater control. Now it was not the first drug the dr tried me on but thankfully it was the one that helped me. Not every drug works for every person. Another important think to know is that it takes time. It could take up to 6 weeks for you to show signs of improvement. You need to work with your Dr and let them know whats happening. If there is no improvement during that time they will probably switch you to something else. How long have you been on it and how many mg?
Well if it works.. or its helped you?
I suffer really bad with derealisation and throat sensations.. Panic attacks, nausea, heart beat changes rapidly and even skips a beat.. well it feels like it pauses for a second then carrys on..
I just want all of it to stop because its getting harder and harder to deal with.
Ive waited almost 5 years to come on medication and I just hope this is the right decision for me.
So just any information on it will be great..
Thank you in advance :)
I've been on Celexa for over 5 years. What would you like to know?
I used Celexa many years ago and had no problems with it. Why do you ask? Are you currently on it and having some trouble or just thinking about starting it?
Heather
I've never taken Celexa myself, but if the TV commercials are to be believed, 99.9% of the world IS! I'm sure someone else here has had experience with it and will be getting in touch soon. If not, post again until you wake someone up!
Best of luck
Peace
