Disturbing dreams everynight. What is causing this? Need help.....

I have a lot of disturbing dreams on a regular basis. I also experience astral projection (waking up in dreams)

In my dreams they vary from being murdered, cheating, dying, best friends having sex with my boyfriend, loosing a baby (in reality I did), ghosts & arguments.

What could be causing this? x

When my stress is very ramped up I have somewhat similiar epsodes. my in between awake and asleep thoughts will be come so disturbing I have to get out of bed. I'll ge night terrors, horrible dreams. in a couple I see dead people and know that by looking at their faces I will lose my sanity.

my advice: start with some natural remedies. Sleepy time extra tea, bed time meditation and yoga, and finding someone you can talk to whether professional or just a trusted person.

If this doesnt work find a professional and explore other options. sometimes its as simple as benadryl before bed. but best to consult the drs first. and mybe someone who can help you root out WHY you feel these things.

I struggle with a touch of paranoia myself. not alot but I worry about odd things and sometimes I think when we are tired or stressed these things all get exacerbated.  I fact im on here becauae I woke up shivering cinvinced I was hearing things and scared Id start thinking of hurting my husband. I never would, I just fear of going so crazy one day tgat I WoULD do somthing like that.

ps that last paragraph was meant to be before the last two. Im on my phone and it jumbles text now and then.

Ok, so I'm asleep and all of a sudden I am aware that I am dreaming, to awaken myself (in the dream) I have to physically stop myself from breathing, in this AP, I have had ghosts rape me, seen my boyfriend shag my bestfriend, watched myself asleep and so on. - even googled it and everyone of my symtoms came up.

I have no idea what astro projection is, but I may google it up after this.

I have what I call trouble mares, normally nothing I would think meets the test of being a nightmare.

You may want to try reading about Lucid Dreaming, I recommend Stephen LeBerge for Stanford University.  I read his book on the subject and listened to the accompanying audio CD several times.  I have not been able to achieve Lucid Dreaming, but I haven't tired hard either. One point of departure from the above Stephen recommends leaning to think about and appreciate (here's a wining effort even if it doesn't stop troubling dreams) your surroundings.. the complexity of sight and sound.. this is all a step toward recognizing when you are dreaming. The goal as he puts it is to first realize you are dreaming and then engage the dream with your conscious mind.  If thing get tough you can always wake yourself up, so have a means for that in your "pocket"  for me just opening my eyes wide does it. I practice this when I'm awake and am entering a situation that seems it could lead to terror.  My trouble mares do not cause terror, and I never try to wake up, but think I would like to.

Sharon, haha. I don't think you are astral projecting. I think you are thinking of lucid dreaming. There is a major difference. However, ironically if you can astral project and visit that realm that's a good sign there are other universes out there than ours and therefore you shouldn't worry about being sick and possibly dying. I think you are your own worse enemy, as most of us sufferers are too. Once you realize you are self inducing most of this stuff , and people aren't feeding your anxiety fix, you will be so much happier. Start reading about astral projection and give your mind and body a break. It's no wonder you are depressed. Your mind is crying for break!

I think the simplest answer would be stress and anxiety.  Most definitely when our moods are affected in some way, so are our dreams.  I definitely notice changes in my dreams when my anxiety is high.

Medications can also affect the quality, quantity and content/theme of our dreams.  Since I've been back on Zoloft, I have vivid dreams every single night, almost always with a very similar theme.  Not BAD dreams, just odd ones.

As upsetting as they may be, I would recommend trying not to focus too much on them.  When you first awaken, try to get your mind on something else, don't replay the dream in your mind.
