Divorce and Stress/Anxiety

Can going through a divorce cause you to feel like your heart is racing all day long?  And that you cannot sleep?  And can it make you cry for hours without interruption?  Basically, is it supposed to make you feel like you are dying?  Like you're falling apart and not able to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Like everything is crashing down. Body aches, pains,  and strange feelings.  Vision blurriness,  sweaty hands and feet,  shakes and shivers and cant get outta bed.

Can divorce amplify your anxieties?  How long are the symptoms suppose to last?

Absolutely...

Fortunately (or unfortunately) you can point to your source of stress and anxiety.  Bouts of anxiety and depression can be brought on by many things, including divorce, a move, loss of a loved one, or just about anything else.

I don't know if anyone can answer how long it will last for your particular situation.  I think it all depends on your personaility and where or not you are prone to getting anxiety and depression.

Regardless, there are some some long term and quick term help for you.  For quick relief...your MD may prescribe xanax or valium or something similar to help you calm down and get some sleep or just peace in general.  They are addictive meds so your MD will probably be very careful.

Long term help will be in the form of talk therapy and possible anti-depressant or anti-anxiety meds.

Good luck...sorry for what you are going through.
