Does your anxiety bring up past things

Does your anxiety bring up certain things of the past that "normal" people would find silly or laugh at while for you they make you anxious and sick?

Ignore that garbled thought of mine. I was editing before I posted and cut a few words out for another sentence
"if the pain is too great they can't then calm down and refocus. "

Here is an example of a guy who can't deal with the fears of a heart attack. He knows he does not have heart issues because he has been tested before. However, the fear of dying is so powerful he is unable to switch his focus to logically analyze the situation and stop heading to the ER. It isn't easy for some people but for others one trip to the ER is enough because they realize they don't have anything to worry about.

Your mind brings up things not anxiety - but bad anxiety can sort of paralyze you so you can't put them to the back when you need to focus on other things. It is like when you have a big deadline coming up soon and are running out of time you sometimes are so paralyzed with fear that you can't get anything done and miss the deadline because of the paralysis.
That is why people take meds or if they have are lucky enough to have the right skills they find a way to refocus on other things - if the pain is too great they can't then calm down and refocus.

Self help books teach that the difference between a human and an animal is the animal has no ability to control its thoughts but a human can. Anxiety does not BRING thoughts into your mind otherwise there would be no escape. Anxiety can only create fight or flight responses which are sometimes so powerful the only way to deal with them is to escape by falling asleep, taking a short term relief med like Ativan or finding some way to channel your thoughts into more pleasant areas.

Omgshhhh it so does. my grandpa passed when I was 15 and I had my panic attacks hit hard when I was 19. I wasn't completely over my grandpas death when my anxiety it real bad but it seemed like my anxiety just brought up all the emotions I had when he first passed. I couldn't look at old men, I couldn't talk about him, see picturea , or anything without crying. I had frequent dreams about him at that time and I would just cry uncontrollably when ever hw was topic of discussion. I felt like in denial that he was gone and guilty like I should have or could have done more. like some how it was my fault. after 4 yrs of him being gone, I felt like he had just died the day before. I got to the point where I just wanted to die so I could see him and I wouldn't feel the way I did anymore. I should add that depression came along with my anxiety as well which is very common and may be what youre experiencing to some extent. anyhow, it is very possible that depression along with anxiety is making you this way. you should most def go see a professional . best of luck. message me whenever you just. wanna talk or anything.

I found, and still find that happens to me at the moment. I thought (oh well that's just me) maybe you are new with your antidepressant? My first week, I had a day where, my head felt so clear that I realise that, instead of all those thoughts the same as you! I have a long way to go with my med still to kick in better. I new that day that I had to change my life style a bit to, otherwise you can feel really run down!! Take care! :)

Anxiety does not bring up things in your mind. You might not be able to control what pops up that bothers you, but you have the ability to shift the focus to thoughts that are more to your liking. It isn't easy to do this when plagued by anxiety especially if the thoughts come about due to activities you do that have old memories attached. For example if you had a car accident that left you with a limp the bad car accident memories might keep coming up every time you go for a walk.
This is how one lucky person was able to deal with anxiety. It is not always easy and not everyone will be successful. http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/04/health/ramprasad-depression/index.html?iref=allsearch

YES!
I have this happen to me a lot. I remember small details of things and will make myself sick with worry. I have also worried about mistakes I have made in the past.

I am currently working with a doctor and taking 10mg of paxil a day for the anxiety. It helps, but also going through the therapy has helped me too. I can't always get rid of the thoughts. However, I will tell myself to calm down, do breathing exercises and then focus my attention elsewhere, so I dont let these thoughts take control.
