How long can symptoms last?

Hello,
About two months ago, I was rushed to the hospital thinking that I was having a heartattack. I was hooked up to an EKG and had chest x-rays and blood work. Guess what I was fine, well at least that's what the doctors told me. However, I kept getting symptoms which are classic signs of anxiety. My one question is how long can these affect me? Two months later and I still get dizzy spells almost daily, chest heaviness, a cloudiness to were I can't concentrate on anything and digestion problems. Will these eventually go away? I've been to my Primary Care about 4 times in the last 2 months. If I don't have a sinus infection or something then these must be caused by stress? Are these purely psychosematic? Mainly, my question is am I ever going to feel normal again? I'm 26 years old by the way, I don't know if that matters.

Thanks,

I have terrible anxiety symptoms.  It been going on for the last 16 weeks.   Right now getting a good nights sleep is one of the most difficult things to do.  Does anyone have any good recommendations on how to sleep?  Preferably not medication.  I tired taking ambien and it did nothing.

I am also having lingering anxiety attack symptoms. Has anyone here had anxiety attacks and then the chest pain lasts for days? Perhaps from strain?
Mainly a sharp dull aching pain on the left side of my chest, not the center, after having a series of anxiety attacks 3 days in a row (brought on by marijuana edibles). I had extremely rapid heartbeat and a sharp dull pain on the side, clenching my arm, etc. I have had this before from paranoia and done the hospital ER deal and always ok. But now I have been waking every morning since and all day with this gnawing pain and lasts through the day. Today is Sunday and hurts very bad - my last "attack" was three days ago and was hoping it would subside but still hurts and I am sure I am adding fuel to the fire by obsessing over it and googling! But can't help but feel I caused some heart damage, like angina or something. I am 47 and shouldn't be testing the waters anymore.

i am 27 years of age and its 2 1/2 months now since my first attack was happen. I've been rush to the ER for about more than a 5 times. they do ecg and some blood test, such as for enzymes? and it was all clear. but then i am not confident about the result so i go to  2 ENT, the other one told me i was fine, the other one told me i was having an infection in my sinus that is why it also affects my ear that's why i got dizzy, so i believe the doctor who has a findings in me. after 5 days of useless medication, the sdizziness still there. so i decided to change may hospital again then suggested me to check the thyroid thing for the 3rd time. before i go to the doctor and see my result, i didnt make and rushed again in emergency room because of chest pain and shortness of breath. my thyroid was totally fine, all my labs are fine. blood results are fine...  everything was fine/ i done also this thing called 2d echo and it was all fine... i was totally shock, to the point that i was disappointed in all the doctors i have been through. there was a time that i hope that they saw something in me in every test they made to address this S$#@ in me but unfortunately/ fortunate is that i am normal... so i have to stick to what all the doctors told me, that it was anxiety.

Sounds like early stages of hashimoto's. It causes everything from a to z.
I went through the samething and it took years to detect. See the below post to everyone.

This could be the beginning of hashimoto's disease. It may not show up for a few years but it will show up. Most physicians don't look very hard or only test the T3 and T4 hormone ... that is if they test at all. Google Hashimoto's and panic disorder or hashimoto's and anxiety. Fifty percent of hashimoto's patients have reported the first signs being panic/anxiety disorder. I know because I was one of them. You need extensive testing at a time when you're at your worst. Hashimoto's starts out as fluctuating thyroid making it hard to detect. My biggest mistake was going for blood work on a day I felt OK. Also it could take several extensive tests. Tell your doctor you want every aspect of your thyroid tested and get a copy of each test. This way you know their testing everything and not just the standard T3-4 ..which won't detect anything until you become extremely sick. It took almost 15 years before they detected mine. Good Luck!!

Hi all,

I am new to this as well. I am constantly feeling some weakness, not always. My heart seems to be racing all the time, sometimes not so much. It happened a week ago where I was breaking down off and on and I couldn't figure it out. I recently had a big move for a year masters degree. I'm alone in my own one bedroom, no family, no transportation, just a new stressful year that basically can make or break my career. That's a big one. There's many more things involved with my move but I definitely felt the onset a week ago. I always yawn, sometimes feel light headed. Sometimes out of focus. I do function well still, I can study fine and retain. It's just very bothersome and distracting. I have been able to sleep fine, thankfully. But, I always feel my heart still racing a bit more than normal. I have been drinking tea's (St. Johns wort, chamomile, lavender, lemon balm) we'll see how it goes. I've also been taking deep breaths very regularly, and attempting meditation. I am definitely relaxed. Anyhow, I have a psych consultation in a week. I'll post for some updates. Also, I'm a 22 yo male, no previous incidents, very healthy, lived a very comfortable active life, still try to! I'm working out regularly.

Please Help! Will this ever end? My life is beautiful. No issues, no depression. I started birth control Loestrin Lo Fe, in 7 days I felt my heart racing and difficulty breathing while I was training. I train 5 days a week. Horrible insomnia at night. Its been 7 days since Ive been off of the birth control. I took at total of 20 pills and stopped. I thought I was dying. Nothing happened. What is happening? I ve been to ER with a perfectly normal EKG! Everything is normal all my tests. I am tired of feeling like this. I am exhausted. I cant eat, sleep or drink. I cant medicate myself with Valium. I have kids.

I developed anxiety when getting off of birth control 3 months ago and I kept having people tell me that birth control cant cause my symptoms.  I had a shortness of breath feeling for the first two months and stomach issues and now Im slowly recovering. Although I'm still dealing with some pain and tingling sensations in my face. A big part of recovering is accepting what is happening and trying not to freak out.  It will take your body some time to get out of that stress mode. Try cognitive behavioural therapy.  I just started on Sertraline also and the combination of both seems to be helping.  You have to force yourself to do things even if you are feeling sick.  You feel like you are going nuts, but youre not.

Hi. I just went through a series of stressful situations that eventually brought on symptoms many have described. I don't have a history of the disorder, but I do remember having similar feelings right after 9/11. It's not something that really hits you suddenly and I really don't feel that sad. It's just a feeling of hopeless doom ( is the best way to describe it. It's also accompanied with a feeling of detachment and feeling trembly and on edge. It's not all the time. Now it only happens maybe briefly once a day, like its wearing off. I thought at first that I might be going crazy but being patient, and learning to focus on living and thinking in the present I've managed to work through it. It ***** but it seems that mine was only temporary.

I suffer from severe anxiety as well.   Except mine were abdominal and back pains.  Awful pains.  I would freak out and have been to ER 4times in a month.  They do find blood in my urine each time but that's all.   Could it be my anxiety is making me think this pain to be so bad?  Anyone else suffer like this?

Hey all, I am a 29 male also new to this site and anxiety. I have had it for a month straight. All my symptoms just shown up out of the blue one day. I had no issues every prior to that. My symptoms include... body tingling, chest pains, shortness of breathe, loss of hunger even though I'm always hungry, and sleep maybe 4 hours a day.Worst one is the tingling on my face making it feel numb. I'm fine if i wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, but once I wake up to go to work, here comes the anxiety ten fold. Its always worse when I wake up. I have taken the last week off of work and still the symptoms remain. Thought it was work... I was wrong.

I have talked to many doctors, done many blood tests and all have found nothing. Up until the past month, I was very very active. However, now i cant get myself to go out. This crap has made me depressed and an angry person. The one thing I have yet to do is what you all have done, go to the ER and get a MRI or a CT done... yet.

It is very nice to know other people do go through the same thing. It *****, yes, but its reassuring we are not alone.

Hi, Anxioussince14, I'm on Paroxetine since the 1st May, 10mg the first week and then increased it to 20mg for 3 days, but made me feel very sick so I dropped it to 15mg for 3 days and then slowly increased it to 20mg, which I have been taking for a week now.  So its now nearly 3 weeks and still very anxious, with brain fog so don't feel I can go back to work yet and concentrate on my job, because I cant seem to focus...still focusing on how I'm feeling and the anxiety...cant seem to help it, the negative thoughts don't seem to go away

I am 20, college student with anxiety as well. I do not drink or smoke. Try taking 5-htp and doing exercise at least 30 mins a day. With anxiety serotonin levels are very low and the 5htp will boost those levels and it is a more natural method with no side effects. Exercise, maybe take two-three 5htp pills daily in the morning and at night can help you feel much better. I have been exercising, taking 5 htp, and thinking positive as much as possible and I feel much better just with that simple method. Just know that the symptoms are temporary if you tell yourself they are and not think to much about them, the more you think you are anxious the worst things will be. I am no expert but being in college dealing with stress and not having to take those SSRI medications or coping with drugs or alcohol is a wonderful thing for me. 5htp is the best! Try it

im having the same symptoms, chest pains, palpitations, tingling feeling, shortness of breath, incoherent feeling, and weakness/dizziness. I thought I was having a TVI or stroke, got to the hospital and everything was fine. I made an appointment with my PC and she diagnosed me with anxiety and prescribed me to a depressant. I didn't like how it made me feel and I also wanted to rule out every possible issues because all she did was based my situation on what the ER said and it could be due to stress from pospartum. so ive made appointments to a cardiologist and a neurologist for a MRI and sleep study. due to it being the beginning of the year I had to schedual appointments that's a month from now and I freak out every night as Im going to sleep. living like this is so tiring but Id never take it for granted. I jus hope im healthy and also for whoever is going through the same as I.

Hello, bring back this thread. I'm 22 and I'm dizzy and this will not go away. Gets worse if I think about it or something else that is health related. Also very tired all the time. Is this anxiety as well? I do panic very easily with my health and my ct scan went good I have a MRI in 2 weeks but it is very scary knowing I can't help it and that makes it worse also.
