I am about to give up and just start taking Xanax all the time

I had been taking prozac for almost 10 years and it worked great.  Then, it's like it just quit working.  I switched to Celexa and I don't feel like it works at all.  The only thing that seems to relieve my anxiety is Xanax which I am scared of becoming dependent on.  But, I am about to just say forget it and take it as needed instead of trying to stay down to 1 a day.  I only take .25 mg, but it seems like it is not working as well as it used to.  I am at a loss and so tired of being axious all the time.

i used to be on prozac 60mg (up to 100mg) for about 8-10 years and switched to cymbalta which helps with depression, anxiety, and pain. you may try that. don't over take your xanax because you're right, it is addictive. don't take anymore than you're prescribed before talking to your psychiatrist, which i suggest you call today or tomorrow to make an appointment. i take 1mg xanax (allowed 2 per day) but don't take them everyday, also abilify (for mania) and vyvanse (for adhd) among a host of pain killers, muscle relaxers, and other things like acid reflux med. the vyvanse helped tremendously with my anxiety! but if you don't have adhd then it wouldn't help, only hurt. my anxiety comes in cycles, maybe you're just having a cycle but you need to call your psych doc immediately for help! that's the only thing that will help you is probably a change of meds. i am always anxious it just has degrees, that's what i'm calling a cycle. good luck...velvetvenus

I am sorry that you are dealing with this right now....for me anxiety can definitely come back sometimes after a very long lull which can be very stressful in my opinion.  The good thing, however, is you are armed with the knowledge to confront and deal with this.  Over the past ten years have you been getting counsleing for your anxiety or have you recently started back up?   For me, talk therapy, even if it is just once every couple of months (even when I am not experiencing any anxiety whatsoever) is a huge help in recognizing it and dealing with it when it comes up again...keep us posted!
