I feel like im going to die...

So im 21 years old, and i think i have some sort of anxiety disorder, ive been to doctors but doctors around here are a little different i dont think they believe in illnesses they cant see under a microscope , thats what happens when you live in small towns... anyway, i think ive had it for a while, but past couple of years i get this strange feeling that im dieing, like first i think it in my brain, then i get these chills from the middle of my back to up my neck, and i get twitches, in my legs, arms eye, upper back,  then i start getting a short breath, and my heart feels like its skipping i remember i had this and i went right to a doctor, and they set me up to this heart machine with these stickers all over my body, and they said the tests came out fine, theres nothing wrong with me, but i tell u, these feelings are terrable, they make me extreemly depressed after as well, almost to the point of crying, i havnt died yet, but sometimes the feelings are so strong that i just KNOW im my brain im going to die right here and now, the feelings last for not even an hour and its gone, but after i feel so bad i dunno what it is . it doesn't happen that offten maybe once a month, im not on any kind of medication for anyhthing, however i am depressed often. so if anyone can relate to this or have any answers what may cause this, let me know.

I also wanted to point out that you certainly don't have to have a chemical imbalance causing this issue, I'm just saying to consider that a possibility before assuming that talking your personal problems out will help to resolve the anxiety. We all are different.

I had a therapist tell me I should try talk therapy to treat my severe anxiety, OCD, panic disorder and Bi-polar tendencies. Turns out I have a vitamin B12 deficiency that helped fuel my anxiety fire.

I just think you need a medical checkup to make sure something medically isn't contributing here and also a visit with a Psychiatrist to make sure something isn't off chemically in your brain before going the therapist/talk route. Let him decide what he thinks would be best for you.

I'm going to disagree with a few others in here who state "talk therapy" could be your ticket to wellness. That might be true when someone is not chemically out of whack and has fine functioning neurotransmitters and is producing enough of these chemicals to NOT have that be the source of your anxiety, but many people (such as myself) are not producing enough specific brain chemicals and therefore all the talking in the world isn't going to help me relieve my anxiety (along with many other problems). In my case drugs are absolutely needed or I would wind up in an institution somewhere. So my point is that some people have anxiety from medical causes, not just over perhaps some irrational fears you can "talk" through. You should find a Psychiatrist ,if possible to discuss this with. If you can't, go back to the doctor and flat out tell him you're having severe anxiety attacks and need help for them NOW! I would demand help. If this is anxiety, it's just going to become worse the longer you leave it untreated.

Hey Jessie,  I hope you are feeling better!

I reccommend you read the posting responses that are under the initial post by Nellynell, which says, "everyone check this out". It is rather recent in the anxiety forum. It should help a lot!!!

Sounds like classic anxiety/panic attacks.
How far away is the nearest large city? Sounds like you don't have a great deal of faith in the local medical community, so if it's not out of the question, I'd make the journey to the city not only for a more thorough cardio work-up, but a referral to a good therapist who specializes in anxiety/panic.
Anxiety happens for a reason and until you get to the root cause, it will probably plague you for years to come. Trust me, do something now..........don't lose years of your life. Medication will only mask the symptoms, they won't cure the disorder, just food for thought. Many people don't want to take meds, and sometimes, therapy alone is enough, but we are all different, and what works for me may not work for you.
Also keep in mind that nobody has ever died from a panic attack. And yes, I know it feels like you're going to!
Spend some time reading posts on the forum and you'll get an excellent oversight of what you're dealing with and all the various options for treatment out there. You can also check out our new Alternative Treatment Forum.
If you have any more questions, post as often as you need to. We're open 24/7 (yawn)
You'll be OK.
Merry Christmas
Peace

i dont think about death, ive had some emotional issues in my life, that made me want to commit suicide many times, but i have never done it, have came close tho, but i dont think death bothers me, but when i do get the feeling that im going to die , of corse i dont want to die, and i panic, then once that feeling goes away i get into a bad depression. it last for a few hours then goes away but yeah it happens like once or twice a month.

I understand what you mean. Can i ask one question?
Are you afraid to die? is this what brings the attacks on , that you think about death so much it scares you and then you start to get the symptoms?
Im going through some sort of dilema at the moment.
Just when you feel that terror crawling up on you just calm down , relax and busy yourself , make a cup of tea , or get a hot shower.
Trust me it helps

hi i know the feeling i start having anxiety attacks since june but i have had them in the past but ive been having them once a month also and my husband doesnt understand that i really have a feeling that im dying that i cant breath its hard to swallow its just scary so i call my mom to take me to the hospital because you just be wanting them to check your oxygen your pulse and make sure your not dying because you really feel like you are and everytime i go they say your just having a panic attack they gave me xanax which is probably what you need cause when you get that feeling you can take one and it will calm your nerves and slow your breathing and your heart down because when i have them my heart skips beats and also feels like its about to jump outta my chest but now i know that i am having them so when they come on i just lay down with the fan blowing directly in my face breathing sometimes in my nose and out my mouth and concentrate on one thing and eventually it slows down and goes away but you just need to go and talk to a psychitras and that dosent mean your crazy and tell them exactly whats going on and theyll perscribe the right meds for you because it is a very scary thing to go through
