Just need an answer.

Ok I don't know where to start. I'm 17 years old and I'm pretty sure what I have is anxiety because my father has it bad. I get it a lot when I'm going to be the center of attention. I get very nervous and start to shake a lot and have trouble breathing. The latest attack was in my English class, I had to go up with a friend and talk in the front of the class. I held a camera thing to show the project clearly to the students and my friend spoke. But I started shaking and it began to be a problem for me so I told my friend I'll talk now because I didn't want everyone to see that I'm shaking so he grabbed the camera and I tried to talk but I was so nervous, I was shaking so bad that I could feel my whole body shake, not just my hands. My legs were shaking also. I felt so embarrassed afterward. And before we went up I was sitting in my desk just waiting and my body began to shiver and twitch alittle. (the titching and the whole body shaking was the first time that has happened to me. It's only been my hands and hard to breath.) I just don't know what's happening and makes me not wanna talk in front of the class because I'm embarrassed. It's beginning to make a impact in my life.

The same thing happened to me my first year of college.  Out of the blue I developed a phobia of speaking in front of a group.  (it's very common.)  My heart would pound so hard I thought it was going to kill me.  I couldn't even speak when we got into small groups.  The following year I deliberately signed up for a speach class to contront this.  I had to deal with this to continue in school!  Anyway, it worked!  I never took any meds or anything, just confronted my fear.  Good Luck - you can do it!!

You did mention that your teachers and school conselor did'nt seem to take you very seriously. Can you ask your mom about seeing another counselor?
I completely understand what your going through. I was a year older than you when I had my fist panic attack. I had no idea what was going on, the fast heart beat, the fear, feeling really strange. It took me years to find out that I was having panic attacks. Your young and have an idea that what your going through are panic attacks. That's why I really think you should do something about it right now. Seeing a counselor can help you figure out why your having them and what you can do about them.

Yes, my mom has told me to go talk to my school counselor again.  And yea probably is a panic attack but it just feels so intense when it starts happening like I can't even breath at all and my heart starts beating fast and all that regular stuff that happens.

You may very well be able to help your anxiety with counseling. Have you talked to your mom about seeing a counselor before seeing your family Dr? Yes, meds can and do really help, but if I were you I would try counseling first.

I have told one of my teachers last year about my problem and went to the nurse and the counselors just to talk and hear what they have to say about it because I like to hear the advice everyone thinks. But it seemed like both didn't take me serious like just thought I was just regular nervous. I have talked to my mom about it all and she said if it keeps happening of getting worse that she will take me to a doctor or something. My dad take pills, and that's what my mom said they'll probably give me. But I can't take doing stuff like what said anymore. Also I kinda stutter.. Just mentioning it. Sometimes I can't even say words. Anyways, thank you all for the advice! I respect it.

I am 18 years old and also suffer from anxiety. A lot of similar things would happen to me. Does this happen in other settings as well, or only in front of large crowds? Could be terrible stage fright, or a social phobia. I would reccomend going to your doctor. They can give you a test of sorts to see how severe your condition is, or if you even have one. A school counselor is helpful too! I went to mine while I was in high school and it helped me prepare and get through any issues I may have run into through out the day.

It sounds like you might be having panic attacks. I am not a Dr so I can't say for sure. I would recommend seeing your Dr first and also talking to your school counselor if you feel comfortable with that. I think it might be a good idea for you to think about therapy. They can teach you ways to deal with the anxiety.
