Kava Tea/Capsules

HI.  Has anyone tried Kava Tea or Kava capsules to help with anxiety?  I have heard it helps to calm and alleviate some symptoms.  If you have tried it, did it help and what form did you use---tea, capsules, etc.  Where do you buy it?  Thank you.

Yes, I use to take kava tea for anxiety ; It helps me a lot. Various online websites are there that are selling kava you can search for that.

Kava can have strange affects on people.  Some people have described the feeling as a mix between being slightly sedated to crappily stoned, you'd have to try it once to see if you like it.  The tea is a better route to go, it tastes like dirt but the capsules gives you stomach aches.

Have you tried using ice with your tea? I have a portable ice maker that I use for mine.

Sometimes Valerian Root works for me, but I am not an expert at this topic, as I am new to the site.

If kava tea works, then your problem is very slight, because there's not much kava in it.  If you want an appropriate amount of kava, Eclectic Institute, Herb Pharm, Gaia all make kava in various forms, tinctures and pills, standardized and not.  Remember, if it tastes good, there's very little kava in it, it tastes horrible.

As for the Canada ban, it's kind of banned in the US, too.  There were five cases of liver disease, and while four of the five were also recovering addicts and using several prescription drugs, of course they banned the kava; the fifth was taking gallons of it a day to get high.  So few companies still have the courage to sell it.  If you want to be safe, avoid the standardized kava.  Eclectic Institute makes a good kava juice in a capsule that is more like how it is traditionally used.  However, remember, one supplement alone doesn't solve these problems usually, it usually takes a combination.  The Yogi tea is a combination.  For example, passionflower and hops are also very good with anxiety, as are several amino acids and other nutrients.  It's more complicated if your problem is a serious one.  A book to read about it is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist with UCLA.

i was looking for kava kava tea in Toronto and after a week of searching i found out that its banned in Canada. I wonder if there is still any place that sells it in Toronto

You can order it online. That's what I did. I have a question though I take like 2 1/2 - 3mg of Xanax a day. Im really trying to stop the xanax and a friend told me about Kava tea. Has anyone tried this to replace xanax? When I tried to cold turkey quit xanax on the third day I could'nt handle the side effects. So.......back on xanax I'm trying to taper off. I just wanted to see if anyone has had this kind of situation and has tried yogi kava tea while taking xanax. Thanks for any answers

I can only find it in health food stores.  I've also seen it in my local vitamin store.  I'm not sure where you are located but here in San Francisco we've got health food stores up the wazoo!

Hi there again!  I drink Kava tea when needed.  I'm not sure if they make capsules anymore.  Yogi Tea makes a stress relief tea with Kava in it.  Tastes good too.  In the midst of a slight panic attack...I say "slight" because they are nowhere near as bad as they were years ago.  In fact, I should probably call them anxiety attacks.  Anyhow, I make a cup of tea and allow it to steep for ten minutes.  Worked just like a lorezapam for me.
