Loss of appetite

I have been dealing with anxiety for about 7 months now and it has never been so bad to the point where my appetite has been affected. However, lately (about 3 weeks or so) it has affected my appetite to the point that I am not hungry at all. I do force myself to eat because I know that I need to. I have also seemed to have lost weight which is of concern to me. I am not completely sure if it is anxiety only which is causing this loss of appetite so I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I will ask about it. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had similar issues and how do you deal with them? Like I mentioned before, I have to force myself to eat. Also, when I do eat, the food stays down. It's not like my body is rejecting the food or anything. Any help? tips? suggestions?

I recently have had anxiety on and off for the past 2 months. During this time, I have lost close to 20 pounds. When the anxiety hit, I totally lost my appetite.

I force myself to eat but it usually isnt the portions that I am use to So, i would say that anxiety and or depression cause appetite loss.

Another thing to add to this is that I usually enjoy drinking a few glasses of wine. I stop drinking this when I have anxiety. so there is another calorie loss to consider.

I appreciate your reply. I do take xanax 0.25mg when I feel like that wave of anxiety coming on. Perhaps the combination of anxiety and xanax has suppressed my appetite. I will get better answers tomorrow. Thank you for your best wishes.

Anxiety can cause a loss of appetite, but when you actually begin to lose weight and must force yourself to eat, it's time to see your doctor. Which you will be doing tomorrow and can discuss all your concerns with him at that time.
You didn't mention if you were on any medication for your anxiety, but some of the benzos and AD's out there do cause loss of appetite and weight. If you ARE on meds, a simple change may be all that is required to fix this.
You'll have your answers tomorrow.
I wish you the best and know you'll be fine.
