Lump in throat related to Anxiety?

Hi Everyone,

I have been dealing with feelings of anxiety and guilt now for the last 4 weeks.  Recently, over the last several days, I have felt as though I have a constant lump in my throat - I notice it most upon swallowing - feels similar to how you might feel if you had a sore throat (but I'm sure its not a sore throat), I just feel as though I constantly need to clear my throat or drink water to get rid of this feeling in my throat.  I've read that this can be connected to feelings of anxiety - has anyone on this site experienced something similar to this before??  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Ricki

Hi Ricki, sorry you are having anxiety.  Its a horrible feeling.  The feeling of a lump or something caught in your throat is definitely a symptom of anxiety.  I have had this myself many times while suffering anxiety and it always makes me more afraid and worry that something is wrong but then, in a few days or weeks (depending on the severity of the anxiety), it goes away.  A few things that have helped me are sipping a warm drink such as broth or tea, gargling with warm salt water or keeping a piece of hard candy, mint or cough drop in your mouth.  I hope you feel better soon.
