side affects ativan/prozac

i have been on prozac for 21 days 20mg once a day i feel nervous depressed and also take 2mg of ativan 3 x a day or as needed since august 2007, this makes me feel sleepy tired loss of mood i just dont feel like myself taking these two meds so on monday what should the psychiatrist be able to do for me?

Hi caseclyde,

Always best to taper off antidepressants.I took prozac for 1 week.I stopped it abruptly 21 days ago as the doctor advised me to.I definetly wouldnt recommend stopping abruptly.

i hav only been on prozac once a day for 19 days can i just not take it i am all ready getting side affects from it

Ditto on JSGeare.  I was prescribed lexapro and prozac.  Lexapro sent me to the ER with a major anxiety attack and prozac also made me nervous.  Long story short, my doc. and physchiatrist recognized that I ONLY needed ativan for my anxiety.  Unfortunately and for some reason, a lot of doctors out there are trying to treat anxiety with anti-depressants.  Anti-depressants are uppers and they basically make you more nervous.  These drugs are good for depressive folks.  However, for anxiety...we need the benzos...Klonipin, Ativan, Xanax and Valium based on person's condition.  Hope this helps to ask your doctors some more questions on what changes they should probably make.  All the best.

Kind of tough for us to say what the shrink can or cannot do. Please ask him that question and then let US know what he says. I'd really like to know the answer.
