Medication question

My mom offered my a Xanax a few days ago for my ongoing Anxiety.  I turned her down, but I felt like I needed something today.  I asked again, but she was out.  So she offered me Neurontin instead.  She insisted that it would help, and I was wondering if anyone would recommend it or if I shouldn't take it.

Cwtn91; My adivcie is try to find another way to cope with your anxiety. Popping a pill cannot be the only answer. This is strictly advice but I would not recommend that you take any sort of Anxiety or Anti-depressant. I suffer from Anxiety/panic attacks and am convinced that there must be another or natural way of relieving it. I weined off xanax and fighting it right now because you become MAJORYLY dependant on it. It's hell brother! (& dangerous too!). I feel like I'm going to die and would never recommend anybody to consume a Benzo. Anne is right about the anti-depressants too...believe that.        Best of luck to you. God knows that I need it too...

Maybe it's time to address your own anxiety so you don't have to worry about this happening.  Best wishes.

I agree with anniebrooke. Plus, your mom could get into trouble for that.

I don't ever recommend borrowing someone else's meds (I guess unless you two are on the same pill in the same dose, and one of you happens to run out -- I used to know a couple who would do this with their Valium every now and then when someone forgot to refill their prescription.  But they would only hand off enough pills to tide the other over until he or she could get to the pharmacy for their own refill.)  Some anti-anxiety drugs and antidepressants have to be taken for a long, gradually tapering period of time, it's not like popping an aspirin for pain, you sometimes have to build up for 6 weeks of taking it every day to get a result.  So on a lot of fronts, taking something your mom just offers you is not a great idea.  Even if she were your doctor, she would not be smart to just hand you a pill and say to take it.
