Medication

I've never wanted medication for my anxiety.  My doctor insisted, so I tried it.  I started with 10mg of lexapro and I started feeling better some days. I stopped taking it during vacation (because my work apparently triggers my anxiety) and I felt pretty good.  When I got back to work I started on lexapro again but this this time I had all sort of side effects possible.  My dr. prescribed me now 20mg but I am scared of taking it, because of the side effects and because I never wanted any kind of medication.

When you start and stop a medication which alters chemicals in your brain, it is a guarentee that you will feel some effects.  Its normal. You just have to decide if the 5-7 days of a little discomfort is worth it for feeling better in the end.  I am also taking an ssri for anxiety.  I was perscribed it because the chemicals responsible for cause depression are also responsible for causing anxiety.  If the chemicals in your brain are in-fact, out of wack..then an ssri should help.  I take a benzodiazephine on an as-needed basis.

Ask your doctor why he is putting you on an SSRI and not a benzodiazepine? Anxiety is your issue, not depression.

Hope you find a peaceful place and work out if the medication is the best for you.  Did you tell your doctor that you had stopped taking it before?
