Need help quick

I have been prescribed clonezapam 1mg 3x daily for social anxiety. I recently missed an appointment with the new Dr. in the office. I rescheduled the appointment, but the earliest they had available is over a month from now. I made the appointment for Jan 3 2011. The Dr. has refused to fill my RX until he sees me in his office.
My question is, can I abruptly stop taking benzodiazepines? Why is that the Dr. not filling the rx?  I am currently experiencing some side effects and i am very worried about the more severe ones that I have read about.
What would your advice be?

Thank you,

I would agree that stopping them abruptly is a bad idea. If you're looking to try and stop them then it is always best to wean them off slowly.  Your doctor should be aware of the fact that they can't be stopped abruptly.
All the best

No, you can't abruptly stop -- it can be dangerous at worst, and uncomfortable at best.  This is a med to be careful quitting, depending on how long you've been on it.  I would either contact your last doctor about getting a temporary refill, or tell the new doctor's secretary about your situation; if that doesn't work, the last line of offense is to indicate that disciplinary or legal action will be following if you are not treated by the appropriate protocols.  Don't let doctors push you around, they work for you.
