Prozac Pill Change effects :(

Hey, I have been taking the generic fluoxetine hydrochloride 10 mgs tablets for about 1.5 years now. My pharmacy recently changed manufacturers and the tablets are now blue... I do NOT tolerate these tablets as well and have also tried the 10mg capsules with the same effects (less effective more side effects- nausea, dizziness, fat face, racing thoughts, decreased libido, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.).. I have called several pharmacies but they all have the blue tablets too -_-... Th side effects persist even after a month on the different pill forms too.. Any options left? Or must I suck it up and take a pill that makes me sick or discontinue usage... (I've tried MANY other SSRIs, SNRIs, SDRI, etc... and Prozac has been my "miracle drug" so this *****)

thanks!

Try the generic version of prozac..called fluoxetine. It comes in white tablets. Pills and capsules seem to vary in their effects with this medication.

This post is 3 years old, but the poster was taking the generic.  The color will depend on the generic manufacturer your pharmacy has a deal with and the dosage.  And most people report brand name drugs, while a lot more expensive, work better.  They certainly have better quality control as they don't have to cut corners because of low profit margins.  Most of us do fine with generics, but then, since our docs pretty much always prescribe generic if it's available, most of us really don't know what the brand name feels like in comparison.

When you say you've tried several pharmacies, were they different owners?  CVS and Walgreens, for example, tend to use different generic manufacturers because CVS owns its own pharmacy benefits manager and therefore is much more restrictive on who they'll buy from.  Because you should be able to special order the ones you had before if you know which manufacturer it was, assuming it's still available -- there's a lot of consolidation through mergers going on in the generic drug industry.
