SSRI and dizzyness

Me again,

I have had an axiety attack at work years ago (2007).
Sinds then i felt this constant lightheadedness.

I've had this feeling 24/7 all these years.
Except when i was on Zoloft for 2 years.
Why is that?

Some doctors told me i was hyperventilating all the time and that's where my lightheadedness come's from.
Other people tell me i am missing something in my brain(Serotonine) due to anxiety.

What do i have to believe?
I don't know anymore.

Well, as you know, we were discussing this with you on your other thread, only you left out a BIG detail on your other thread.  You said that you had taken like 1 or 2 Zoloft pills and your dizziness got far worse.  I've told you I think your symptoms are absolutely anxiety related, and I think you talked yourself into believing the Zoloft was the cause, and you continue to worry about that.

You did NOT tell us that you were on Zoloft for a long period of time for the exact same anxiety-related symptoms (dizziness) and that it helped a lot.  There's your answer right there!  That shows IMO that the dizziness was anxiety related, and you were being well maintained on the Zoloft.

As for why the symptoms came back after stopping the Zoloft?  Because you stopped taking the very medication that was helping you.  This happens ALL the time.  A person will stop taking their medication, for whatever reason, and usually within a few months, the original symptoms return.  That's because the med was helping, plain and simple.  YOUR anxiety presents primarily as dizziness.  Right now, your anxiety is through the roof, so the dizziness is very bad.

You've GOT to find a way to move beyond thinking about this and attributing your symptoms to the one Zoloft you took.  You have to take the control back...stop reading, stop searching about SSRIs and Zoloft and brain damage.  The one Zoloft pill did NOT cause any damage.  In my humble opinion, you are dealing with severe anxiety, and you need to formulate a treatment plan.  As of right now, I doubt you could tolerate another med, as you are still connecting everything to the Zoloft.  Therefore, you will likely have another anxiety-induced reaction to another med.

Get yourself into therapy ASAP and start doing the things you did before that worked to help your anxiety.  Once you can move past this fixation on the Zoloft, you may be able to try another med, which would probably help you, considering the Zoloft helped you tremendously when you took it before.

Take the power back ,my friend...and do whatever you need to do to stop obsessing about the Zoloft.  You have to.

Hey Dolphinleiker,

I am not taking Zoloft anymore, actually i am not taking anything except Omega 3 fishoil tabs and Rhodiola.
I am gonna start doing my breathing excercises again like last year.

The breathing excercises and Rhodiola are the only things that ever helped me to become almost cured.

Jason.

Hey Paxiled,

Thanks for your reply.
I can't believe that my life would be such a mess after a few mild anxiety attacks and a verry big anxiety attack that made me a hypochondriac.

You are right about the medication, it helps but doesn't cure you.
I sometimes think i was still dizzi in bed when i took Zoloft but i didn't care and fel asleep.

I have noticed that my dizziness gets worse if i sigh a lot.
Some people say it has the same effect like hyperventilation.

I remember starting to hyperventilate a little when i was in the waiting room this january at the doctors office before i ever started my Zoloft.

Maybe my fear started to get worse there because all te bad things i've read about them.

I also remember the day before i had to take my first Zoloft i started crying.
I thought, is this it, can't i do this on my own, am i really need to take this to feel normal, than it must be a brain mallfunction.

I think fear can do alot in people.
My wife told me it was just fear and hyperventilation.
I should have listened to my wife years ago, but i kept telling myself there was something wrong in my brain.

There are so many things i've mist in life due to this anxiety but i have faith in the self healing power of humans.

I hope we can all learn from our mistakes.

Greetings,
Jason

The only thing that can cure this is changing your thinking, which is very hard to do.  Medication can help hide symptoms, but no, it won't cure you -- there's no lack of serotonin in virtually everyone, and serotonin isn't the cause of your anxiety, intensifying it in a couple of receptors and preventing it from being broken down by the body just helps make us feel better, it doesn't cure anything.  Relaxation efforts such as meditation helps some, spiritual belief helps some, therapy helps some, and all these work because the person thinks differently.  But again, not all of us or even most of us will succeed at this, but it's always worth trying very hard at achieving.  And if it doesn't work, then we have these meds to try or natural remedies that are weaker but do similar things.  Good luck.

Thanks for this explanation and your time.
This all started in 2007 after a major anxiety attack at work, before that i was fine.

Why am i so obsessed by this Zoloft?
It's because if you start an SSRI your symptoms will become worse and after a few weeks will get better once the medicine starts to work.
But i've stopped the Zoloft after my dizziness got worse and before the medicine had the chance to work and could make me better.
So i believed that my brain got stuck in this worse period because that's when i've stopped the Zoloft.
Sounds dumb i know but that was my biggest fear.

I had a period i was lightheaded for 2 years after my grandfather died and simultaneously had to go to a new school when i was 12 but that went away after taking homeopathic drops.

These feelings of dizziness have been gone for years until i was 29 in 2007.
And if i had them sometimes it was only when i was anxious such like in a movie theatre or so.

I do know that sinds my anxiety attack in february this year i started sighing a lot more with everything i did.

I actually contacted a program that helps people get back to their life after SSRI use and even they told me that my dizziness was probably induced by something else because taking fishoil should have helped if it was Zoloft related.

Well i've been thinking about this and actually it made kind of sense.
I did had some reactions to the 2 Zolofts but there all gone.
All what is left is the dizziness.

I think you are absolutely right.
I will stop searching my symptoms like you've told me and like my wife told me and so many others. I guess so many people can't be wrong.

Just one more question.

Do you think if i stop searching the net about problems, and stop feeding my anxiety and believe it's really only my anxiety and start doing the things i did last year to overcome this that it eventually goes away?
That i have a chance without medication so i can be normal again like i was in 2006?

Greetings
Jason

Are you still taking Zoloft?  The lightheadedness could come from the hyperventilating or just from the anxiety. Lightheadedness is a symptom of anxiety. The Zoloft may not be working they may need the up the dosage or look into another type of anxiety med. But you need to talk to your doctor about it.
