Bad Panic Attacks

Hi Folks,

A couple of years ago I visited a Neurologist due to what I finally learned was GAD / with occasional Panic Attacks.  He put me on Lexapro—10mg and low dose Xanax—.25mg as needed.  Well, the Lexapro worked as advertised and I didn’t even need to take the Xanax.  Problem was the all too familiar sexual side effects of Lexapro.  So I opted to doctor thyself and cut the Lexapro’s in half making it a daily dose of 5mg.  Did this for about three weeks.  All was well until a week ago when the panic attacks returned with a vengeance.  Now I sure as heck am grabbing the Xanax’s.  I have resumed my original dose of Lexapro but am wondering if things will return as they were prior to me cutting the dosages in half.  Thoughts?

Well unfortunately all I know is this, when it comes to the side effects, you have to weigh the pro's with the con's! Talk to your dr. as he or she will weigh the outcomes strongly! Which may lead to precriping you a lesser mg., put you another medication or increasing medication to include new ones for side effects from first medication! This is a personal decision and I THINK maybe you could try some "herbal" remedies, etc? Meditation, Relaxation, Kama Sutra, etc. You will know what is right in end hun! I suffer same thing to! Absolutely no drive as per many meds and I am unfortunately a female, so without holistic approach there is no hope for me, as per  pharmaceutical, YET!!!!!

Best guess?  Maybe two?  ***** to be sure.  Luckily I pop a Xanax when it happens and that stops it.  Drawback is that it makes me tired.  Oh well,it is what it is I guess :)

Sadly, cutting back or quitting medication can put people in a darker anxiety.
You can slowly ween off of the meds, but it has to be under the care of a doctor.
If you tell your doctor you want to get off them, and he refuses to help
change doctors!

Some meds do this, some don't.  Sometimes if you must take the med combining wellbutrin with the ssri helps with this side effect.  Of course, then you're on still another drug, but if this is the only thing that helps ...  That's why it's always best to exhaust all other avenues before trying medication in the hope you can solve the problem without it, but if you can't, well, you do the best you can.
