Someone please help....taking xanax !

Hello everyone.
I am hoping someone out there can answer some questions for me or give me some reassurance. I was diagnosed with Generalized anxiety disorder/ along with panic attacks. I am taking xanax up to 6mg a day, sometimes only 5mg. I have an upcoming doctors appointment. It is actually a checkup. The doctor is aware that I want to taper down on the xanax...I know I can't be completely off. It seems I can not live a normal life without it!  The raising thoughts consume my mind, and I can not concentrate, eat, I feel almost debilitated! Doctor put me on Buspar, 4 wks now. I stopped the buspar since it wasn't doing anything for my anxiety, just made me feel worse. I have tried many antidepressants, but none have worked for my anxiety...some have even made it worse. The doctor mentioned trying a longer acting benzo to taper down on the xanax. The doctor mentioned Klonopin or Valium. Can anyone give me any advice on this? Will this work....I am very scared since I have been on xanax for 4 plus yrs now. I started at a lower dose then I am now, but the doctor I was seeing before kept increasing it. Another question I hope can be answered is: Can anyone give me any advice on xanax during pregnancy?? I am not pregnant, but hope to be soon. I just need to taper down on the xanax and I don't know if it is going to work. In my case the OB said that the benefits would outweigh the risk, but I need to be on a lower dosage.  Anyone please?????

Thank you so much for your reply. I just hope that the transition to Klonopin (if that is what the doc is going to use) is an easy one, and it works.

Thanks Again!

Xanax can cause birth defects in an unborn baby. Do not use Xanax without your doctor's consent if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment. Use an effective form of birth control while you are using this medication. Xanax can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

( I looked it up )

Klonopin and Valium can be used together and most times are to get people off Xanax. Klonopin is a longer acting benzo. Can be used for years and is far easier to come off of when / if you even need to.

I will leave the pregnant question to someone else. Us males know nothing about that stuff. ( LOL ) Greenlydia where are you !
