Strange sensation in both cheeks

I have been suffering with a bad cough for about 5 weeks now, I have been to the Doctors but he advised there is no medication I can take for it. Last night I awoke (as usual) coughing and rushed to the bathroom as I felt I might vomit. After coughing and blowing my nose countless times I went back to bed, I awoke an hour later and had breakfast as usual however I have this odd sensation in both cheeks which has never been there before. It's a bit like when you use a strong mouthwash and eat or drink something straight after, it wasn't too bad this morning but I just ate some fruit and it became so intense I couldn't actually eat any more. My face also seems swollen, and possibly my glands too.
Any idea what it could be?

Thank you for the advice. I haven't had an inhaler or anything else but the odd sensation in my face/cheeks seems to have subsided. I think it may just be from being run down and worrying a bit too much! I really appreciate your comments though, my cough is getting better too :)

By chance, were you prescribed antibiotics for your cough/cold symptoms?  Or, possibly an inhaler?  If so, you could be developing oral  thrush, which is a yeast infection often caused by antibiotics, and sometimes inhalers.  It causes a thick coating in the oral cavity, and on the tongue, can cause lesions and can be QUITE painful (especially when eating or drinking).  It usually requires medication to clear it up.

Just a suggestion, definitely worth having your doc take a look. It isn't very typical of an anxiety symptom, which is why I would have your doc check it out.

Your cough is probably something that will have to improve on its own.  If you happen to be a smoker (or live with one in close quarters), a simple chest cold can easily turn into a chronic cough lastly for weeks, even months.  I've been there, done that, countless times.
