Throat Tightness Driving Me Crazy!!

I think I am just needing some reassurance that I'm okay.  I have posted about some of this before, so forgive me if you are already familiar with some of this.  A few months ago I started getting panic attacks because I thought I had throat cancer.  It got real bad and I ended up with Globus Hystericus because of the anxiety over it.  The Globus got so bad that I felt like it was affecting my speech.  No one else seemed to notice.  It wasnt that I was slurring but more like having a hard time starting a sentence or getting tongue tied with certain consonants.  I went to an ENT and was cleared via endoscope.  It was suggested by my GP that I started seeing a psychiatrist which I did.  He has me on xanax which has taken care of the globus sensation.  But now I have alot of tightness under my chin, like the base of my tongue area and I still have this odd feeling like I'm not talking right.  Sometimes it even hurts the back of my neck from talking because it is so tight.

To make matters worse I did more evil Googling and read about bulbar ALS which has had me freaked out for over a month.  After reading about ALS I also started having random muscle twitches.  I refuse to go back to the GP after how crazy I acted about throat cancer just to return with something new.  My wife thinks I am out of my mind at this point.  I am constantly checking the strength of my tongue and practicing tongue twisters to make sure I dont have any weakness or atrophy.  I have no problems eating or drinking.  But despite it all I still cannot shake this tense clumsy feeling in my tongue thats stemming from under my chin.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the response.  I have been taking xanax, but it doesnt seem to work very well any more and I do not want to increase the dosage.  My main problem is I cannot seem to stay off the internet.  I am constantly googling symptoms of ALS and relating them to symtoms I think I have.  I usually do fine until I feel the tightness come back under chin and I feel like it effects my speech.  Funny thing it, a few glasses of wine will  clear it right up.  I think I need to start by staying off the ALS sites for a while.  It also could be TMJ I think.  My jaw sounds like rice crispies when I open it and I have alot of tension in my jaw muscles as well as the back of my neck (base of skull) that creeps up into my ears.

Your having a server panic attacks. All of the signs would point to anxiety attacks. Try to stay clam. Relax. And go see your doctor for medication that could help improve your life and get rid of these nasty feelings you are having. But most importantly you have to stay calm. As a nurse told me before in the ER...."Breath in your nose and slowly out your mouth. This will bring your vital signs down a lot." and she was right.

Good luck to you,

Also, the twitches are mostly in my legs and none in my tongue.
